POSITION SUMMARY

The Design Engineer- Electrical will design, develop, and test the electrical systems related to firetrucks. Electrical engineering is responsible for turning ideas for products into functional prototypes and eventual production. The position will support advanced engineering designs, production designs, and issue evaluation and resolution using engineering tools with efficient and affordable processes. The engineer will achieve these goals by working cross functionally with other sub-system engineers, purchasing, production, service, and our sales team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Develops, maintains, and ensures conformance to corporate, customer, and regulatory electrical sub-system specifications and performance requirements of existing products.
  2. Initiates and implements integrated hardware and software solutions to meet your respective sub-system performance that improve value by increasing quality and performance or by reducing costs.
  3. Participates on cross-functional teams to implement product and process improvements.
  4. Acts as a technical resource to other departments including Manufacturing, Purchasing, Service, and Sales & Marketing to address and resolve inquiries and problems.
  5. Maintains contact with suppliers, with Purchasing, to evaluate new products as well as support and ensure parts received meet quality standards.
  6. Analyze and problem-solve design, production, and field issues to successful resolution.
  7. Develops and implements corrective action in accordance with QMS procedures.
  8. Prioritizes and manages multiple projects and objectives as well as handling unscheduled tasks.
  9. Prepares and presents project status reports.
  10. Performs other duties and responsibilities as required by management to meet the needs of the company.

Qualifications


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA’S):

K

Knowledge, Education, and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent related experience required.
  • 0-3 years of experience in low-voltage electrical circuit design required.
  • Experience in heavy truck electrical systems and/or automotive electrical systems preferred.
  • Product data management utilizing CAD and PDM systems preferred.
  • Experience with vehicle electric DC & AC generation and supply preferred.
  • Knowledge and application of design for manufacturing and design for service preferred.
  • Knowledge of firefighting processes and equipment preferred.

Skills:

Language:

  • Read and interpret common scientific and technical journals and documents.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Math:

  • Work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  • Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer:

  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Suite required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, and AutoCAD.

Abilities:

  • Ability to manage multiple and diverse projects, including analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, problem solving, decision making, and carrying out assigned projects with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to evaluate designs to meet the customer’s requirements.
  • Must be able to professionally work with vendors.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Take initiative to achieve results in a fast-paced environment.
