Rigging Mechanical Fitter
The Rigging Mechanical Fitter is responsible for the safe movement, positioning, and assembly of large mechanical components throughout the manufacturing process. This role requires experience with overhead cranes, rigging equipment, load control, blueprint interpretation, and mechanical assembly. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to safety and experience handling oversized or heavy materials in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain a positive, safety-focused attitude in support of plant goals for reliability, quality, productivity, and continuous improvement.
- Safely inspect, select, and use rigging equipment including slings, shackles, chains, hooks, spreader bars, and other lifting devices.
- Operate overhead cranes and material handling equipment to lift, move, position, and install large components.
- Determine load weights, center of gravity, and proper rigging methods to ensure safe lifts.
- Perform pre-use inspections of cranes, lifting devices, and rigging equipment and report any deficiencies.
- Read and interpret blueprints, lift plans, assembly drawings, and work instructions.
- Assemble and fit mechanical components using hand tools, torque wrenches, and other assembly equipment.
- Work closely with team members to safely execute complex lifts and support production schedules.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, assemblies, and completed work.
- Follow all lockout/tagout, lifting, and plant safety requirements.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Previous experience in rigging, crane operation, heavy material handling, or mechanical assembly.
- Ability to safely inspect and use rigging equipment and lifting devices.
- Experience reading blueprints, assembly drawings, or technical documents.
- Strong understanding of load control, lifting safety, and industrial safe work practices.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Overhead Crane Operator certification or documented crane operating experience.
- Rigging certification or formal rigging training.
- Experience working in a heavy manufacturing, industrial, construction, or fabrication environment.
- Forklift certification or experience operating powered industrial trucks.
- Technical certification in Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Technology, or a related field.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to routinely lift 50+ pounds.
- Ability to work with heavy components using cranes, hoists, and rigging equipment.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, twist, climb, and perform physical tasks throughout the shift.
- Ability to work at heights, climb ladders, and access elevated work areas when required.
- Manual dexterity to safely operate tools, rigging equipment, and mechanical assemblies.
ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to moving equipment, overhead lifting operations, varying temperatures, and outdoor conditions as required.
