Position Summary
The Warehouse Associate at The Bruce Company is responsible for assisting with various warehouse tasks, including providing exceptional customer service during item pickup and delivery, helping truck drivers with loading and unloading, assembling products, and ensuring the warehouse is organized and efficient. This role also includes making home deliveries to customers and completing paperwork accurately and on time.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Customer Service: Provide exceptional customer service by assisting customers with item pickup and delivery.
- Deliveries: Operate company vehicles to deliver orders to customer homes.
- Receiving: Handle receiving tasks for new products entering the retail warehouse.
- Assembly: Assemble products like casual furniture or grills, including the use of small hand tools as needed.
- Product Returns: Assist with product returns due to damage or inaccuracies.
- Loading/Unloading: Load and unload materials and supplies, requiring lifting over 50 pounds.
- Equipment Operation: Operate equipment such as trucks, bobcats, forklifts, and pallet jacks.
- Shift Participation: Participate in opening and closing warehouse shifts as needed.
- Warehouse Maintenance: Keep the warehouse clean, organized, and safe.
- Product Familiarity: Develop familiarity with the products sold through the retail garden center.
- Company Image: Uphold a company image that encourages repeat business.
- Safety: Follow company safety policies and procedures at all times.
Working Conditions
- Indoor/Outdoor: Primarily performed indoors in the warehouse but may involve exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
- Weather Exposure: Exposure to inclement weather, including rain, snow, heat, or cold.
- Noise: Moderate noise levels; hearing protection is required for operating certain equipment.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, the individual must demonstrate and perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed.
Education, Certification, and License
- Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license with a good driving record is required.
Experience
- Warehouse Experience: Previous warehouse experience is preferred.
- Equipment Operation: Previous experience operating forklifts, pallet jacks, or bobcats is preferred, but a willingness to learn is also acceptable.
Specific Requirements
- Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years old.
- Mechanical Skills: Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot or perform minor repairs.
- Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Language Skills: Must be able to communicate effectively in English.
Physical Requirements
- Standing/Walking: Stands and walks for long periods of time throughout the day.
- Lifting: Consistently lifts weights up to 50 pounds; occasionally lifts and carries weights up to 75 pounds.
- Bending and Reaching: Frequently squats, stoops, kneels, and fully extends arms above head and in front of body.
- Fine Motor Skills: Required for the use of small equipment and hand tools.
Job Specifications
- Employment Type: Full-time, seasonal position.
- Peak Season Hours: Typical work hours are Sunday through Saturday between 8:30 am and 7:00 pm (40-55 hours per week) during peak season (April through November).
- Rotating Schedule: Includes 2-3 opening shifts (8:30 am – 5:00 pm) and 2-3 closing shifts (10:00 am – 6:00 pm) per week.
- Weekend Availability: Must be able to work two weekends per month.
- Winter Hours: Hours vary in winter months (December through March) based on business needs.
- Overtime: Overtime may be required as workload dictates.
