The Regional Chief, Engineering – Southern Region is responsible for leading the Engineering Track team in CN’s territory across the United States. The role is accountable for maintaining reliable and safe track infrastructure, efficiently and cost effectively, while maximizing network availability to support train velocity and the fluidity of network operations.
· Oversee safe and efficient daily operation of the territory
· Act conclusively and independently to identify and solve issues impacting CN’s safety, service, and efficiency
· Communicate in a timely manner, issues addressed, consequences, and solutions implemented to senior management, with high technical accuracy
· Identify and address issues within their organization as well as the ones that cross organizational boundaries collaboratively with other senior leaders
· Demonstrate a commitment to Safety at CN through education of their workforce and implementing key concepts associated with Safety programs
· Set and ensure regional Safety vision is tailored to the Region based on the Engineering Safety Action Plan
· Reduce or eliminate track unit collisions and Main Track Authority Violations (MTAV)
· Ensure regional compliance with CN Standards, rules, and appropriate regulations
· Oversee the daily operation of the Region (e.g., Capital Expenses (CapEx) and Operational Expenses (OpEx))
· Adhere to the yearly operating and capital budgets for the Region
· Ensure accountability for budget variances
· Identify and implement cost efficiencies for the region
· Use data and analytics to monitor and take action on track conditions
· Ensure maintenance programs are carried out in priority order to improve the safety and reliability of the track structure
· Leverage innovation to achieve business objectives
The role is performed in a combination of office and outdoors environments in various types of weather conditions. The role requires being available on-call 24/7 to respond to critical incidents. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to provide deliverables on tight deadlines, maintain leadership composure under stressful and chaotic conditions, make decisions when all facts are not known, and minimize the impact of organizational and personal stress management on the Engineering team. The role requires regular travel (60%) both within and off the territory.
Relevant Work Experience
· Minimum 15 years of relevant work experience
o Experience in overseeing a vast territory (e.g., geographic and demographic)
o Experience leading a large railway maintenance team
o Experience in handling large capital and operating budgets successfully
o Experience communicating change as part of ongoing continuous improvement
o Experience with regulatory requirements related to railway operations, safety compliance, and track standards
o Exposure to other railway operating functions and various territories*

· High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED)
· Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering*
