Scale Operator

Location: Johnston, RI

Pay: $20–$25/hr

Schedule: 1st Shift

We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Scrap Yard Worker to join our team. This role is ideal for candidates with landscaping, construction, industrial, or outdoor labor experience who are comfortable working in a fast-paced scrap and recycling environment.

Responsibilities

• Inspect incoming loads of scrap metal to ensure materials meet specifications and safety standards.

• Identify, sort, and record material types, weights, grades, and quantities.

• Assist with unloading, receiving, and processing recyclable materials.

• Provide backup support for the scale house, including data entry, radio communication, and customer transactions.

• Direct incoming vehicles and maintain safe traffic flow throughout the yard.

• Operate forklifts and other equipment as needed.

• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.

Qualifications

• 2–3+ years of stable work history.

• Experience in landscaping, construction, industrial, warehouse, or outdoor labor environments preferred.

• Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation required.

• Comfortable working outdoors year-round in a non-climate-controlled environment.

• Basic computer skills and accurate data entry abilities.

• Strong attention to detail and communication skills.

• Ability to lift 50+ pounds and remain active throughout the workday.

• Forklift experience is a plus.

Work Environment

• Outdoor industrial recycling and scrap yard environment.

• Frequent exposure to weather conditions and heavy equipment.

• Required use of PPE including safety boots, gloves, hard hats, and eye protection.

• Position involves standing, walking, lifting, and working around active industrial operations.
