At Evonik, we turn science into real-world impact. As a Lab Technician in our newly established Silicones & Surfactants group, you’ll play a key role in building out technical capabilities at our Allentown R&D hub, Evonik’s innovation center for North America.
This is a unique opportunity to join a growing team from the ground up, contributing to hands-on product development and materials testing that supports global sustainability and performance goals. You’ll be part of a collaborative, fast-paced lab environment where curiosity, precision, and safety are core to everything we do.
What You’ll Do
In this role, you will:
Plan and conduct parameter-driven test series to support new product development and material improvements
Safely handle and process reactive or hazardous raw materials under time-sensitive lab conditions
Perform chemical and physical analyses using viscometers, density meters, and other analytical tools
Accurately document lab activities and findings in accessible, data-driven formats for internal and external teams
Collaborate with cross-functional groups within product line, production, other R&D units and application technology
Participate in technical planning, troubleshooting, and idea generation during lab meetings and project reviews
Research new methods, materials, or tools to improve lab workflows and test reliability
Maintain a safe, efficient, and well-organized lab environment by contributing to EHS and quality initiatives
What We’re Looking For
We believe the best teams bring together diverse skills, perspectives, and ideas. The ideal candidate will have:
An Associate’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field (required); Bachelor’s degree preferred
At least 2 years of industry experience in a chemical lab, ideally in R&D or process support
Experience working with silicone materials, surfactants, hydrosilylation, or siloxane equilibration is highly valued
Familiarity with EH&S standards and safe handling of hazardous materials
Strong lab documentation, data interpretation, and reporting skills
A hands-on, proactive mindset with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Solid time management and adaptability in fast-moving, priority-shifting environments
Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to share insights clearly
Work in a research-focused lab culture that values safety, precision, and innovation
Contribute to materials research that supports global sustainability and product performance goals
Collaborate across product management, supply chain, and regulatory teams
Grow into Senior Technician, Application Development, or Product Development roles through hands-on experience
