Job Summary
The R&D Lab Technician will be responsible for assisting in advancing new formulations and maintaining existing products within designated deadlines. They will be tasked with learning and executing on all aspects of project development from bench to pilot to production. The R&D Lab Technician will play a vital role in assisting the laboratory's research and development efforts and the company's product development initiatives.
*This is a part time position for 20-24 hours per week.*
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure general laboratory maintenance by filling product samples, organizing laboratory and maintaining raw material & bulk/standards inventory.
- Provide formulation assistance by calculating ingredient quantities for various batch requirements, weighing raw materials as specified by formulas, combining and processing ingredients, monitoring batches throughout manufacturing, and documenting notable characteristics.
- Support aesthetic and product specification assessments by conducting product stability testing while observing and learning about the relationship between processes, raw materials, and other interactions.
- Learn and utilize all laboratory-scale equipment and relevant SOPs for batching, testing, and ensuring quality standards.
- Demonstrate effective teamwork by supporting team decisions and sharing ideas.
- Master the fundamentals of the corporate system for managing formulas and stability.
- Ensure adherence to both health and safety guidelines and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards at all times.
Education and Experience:
- Completion of High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 0-2 years of related experience.
Skills and Proficiencies
- Capable of light to moderate lifting, handling pails and boxes weighing 20 pounds or less.
- Able to effectively communicate in both written and oral form.
- Adaptability to a fast-paced and demanding laboratory setting.
- Capable of standing for extended periods, up to 70% of an 8-hour shift.
- Understanding of or willingness to learn laboratory techniques, GMP protocols, and computer operations, including handling lab equipment like pH meters, scales, viscometers, and mixers/blenders.
- Proficient in English language skills: reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Able to read and follow written work instructions.
