World Centric is a leader in providing innovative compostable packaging solutions for the food service industry. The R&D Process Engineering Technician will assist engineers and R&D scientists with experiments, testing, and process development activities. This role involves hands-on work with industrial equipment, material preparation, equipment maintenance, and data documentation. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and organization in a laboratory and manufacturing environment.


This role will be located at our site in Stone Mountain, GA (greater Atlanta metro area). This position will report to the Director of Engineering with normal working hours of 9a-5p with some degree of flexibility. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist engineers and R&D scientists in conducting experiments and testing:
    • Operate, set up, maintain, and clean industrial prototype equipment including single and twin screw extruders, injection molders, mixers, compression molders, and thermoformers.
    • Document all aspects of experimentation, including setup, experimental results, and testing procedures.
    • Collaborate with R&D engineering team in the development and trial of new material formulations, providing guidance on equipment setup and operation.
  • Assist in the design and optimization of tooling and molds including profiles, sheets, and injection molding tools.
  • Evaluate, select, and assist with procurement/installation of equipment.
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting.
  • Performs basic fabrication and assembly activities including cutting, drilling, milling, etc.

Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (Engineering, Materials Science, or related discipline preferred).
  • Experience with basic hand tools and fabrication methods (drilling, bandsaw, welding, etc.)
  • Experience operating a range of plastic processing equipment, including compression molding, injection molding, thermoforming, film extrusion, and single and twin screw extrusion.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in process engineering, preferably in materials development, food manufacturing, packaging, or a related industry.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
  • Experience working with thermoplastic starches, biopolymers, cellulosic, and other natural materials a plus.

Salary range: 60-70k base salary + generous bonus and benefits
