Summary: The Quoting & NPI Engineer serves as the technical bridge between program managers, manufacturing, quality and supply chain functions. This role is responsible for evaluating customer requirements, developing accurate cost estimates and quotations, assessing manufacturability and leading the successful introduction of new products into production. The position plays a critical role in ensuring customer expectations, quality requirements, cost targets, and delivery objectives are achieved from quotation through production launch.



RESPONSIBILITIES:

Quoting and Cost Estimating

  • Review customer RFQs, drawings, specifications, models, and quality requirements.
  • Analyze product designs for manufacturability and identify technical risks.
  • Communicate DFM feedback to customers through written or verbal presentations.
  • Develop detailed cost estimates including labor, material, tooling, outside processing, equipment, and overhead costs.
  • Collaborate with supply chain and vendors to obtain material and subcontractor pricing.
  • Determine manufacturing processes, routings, cycle times, equipment requirements and lead times.
  • Prepare accurate and competitive quotations within required deadlines.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction and process optimization during the quotation phase.
  • Maintain quotation records, assumptions, and supporting documentation.

New Product Introduction (NPI)

  • Lead technical execution for cross-functional NPI activities from order receipt through production launch.
  • Review customer requirements and ensure flow-down of technical, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead design reviews, manufacturability assessments, and process development activities.
  • Create and validate manufacturing processes, work instructions, and inspection requirements.
  • Lead evaluation for tooling requirements, tooling design, fixture development, and process validation activities and associated lead times.
  • Monitor launch performance and drive resolution of technical, quality, and production issues.
  • Support production teams during initial builds and ramp-up activities.

Technical and Continuous Improvement

  • Serve as a technical resource for customers, program managers, quality, manufacturing, and operations teams.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective actions implementations for NPI-related issues.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements that reduce cost, improve quality, and shorten lead times.
  • Maintain configuration control and documentation throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Support implementation and compliance with quality management systems and customer-specific requirements.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field strongly preferred. Equivalent combination of education and relevant manufacturing experience may be considered.
  • 3-7+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, process engineering, cost estimating, quotation management, NPI, or related roles. 
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, medical device, precision machining, electronics manufacturing, or other regulated manufacturing environments preferred. 
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings, GD&T, specifications, and customer requirements. 
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems, cost estimation, and manufacturing processes.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes such as machining, assembly and injection molding.
  • Ability to perform cost analysis and develop accurate manufacturing estimates. 
  • Proficiency with CAD software and technical documentation. 
  • Knowledge of AS9100, ISO 9001, or other applicable quality management systems. 
  • Familiarity with PFMEA, Control Plans, First Article Inspection (FAI), PPAP, and APQP methodologies. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel.
