GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this position is to operate and repair complex mining machinery and/or equipment that require extended training and experience. This position performs routine inspections and preventive maintenance on all quarry equipment and tools, repairs defects and reports corrective action to the management staff. Responsibilities include performing tasks such as oil changes and replacing worn parts on all equipment and the plant, as needed. This role conducts repairs and diagnostics on heavy equipment, automobiles, and small engines with diesel or gasoline engines, as well as hydraulic, HVAC, electrical, and brake systems. This position utilizes cutting torches, welds, and fabricates, as required. This position operates machines when necessary and manages vendor communications to order parts, tools, oil, and essential items for the shop and equipment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of and ability to operate heavy equipment.
Knowledge and experience with maintenance of heavy equipment.
Knowledge of the organization’s operations, services and policies.
Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
Good welding and use of cutting torch skills.
Good motor skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or equivalent, and three (3) years of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:
Required: Valid driver's license. MSHA Miner Training.
Preferred: Off road ASE Certification. CDL with HAZMAT and Tanker certification to operate quarry fuel truck, or ability to obtain within one (1) year.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is very heavy work which requires exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
This position has the following special vision requirements: close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less); distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more); color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors); peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up or down and to the left and right when vision is fixed on a given point); depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships); adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in a high risk indoor and/or outdoor work environment; may encounter noise, weather, extreme temperatures, moisture, humidity, dust, odors, fumes, gases, vibration, electrical hazards, mechanical hazards, chemical hazards, explosive hazards, burn hazards, bio-hazardous waste, moving mechanical parts, or working in high places. In the performance of their duties, employees may be required to use personal protective equipment such as face masks, goggles, boots, gloves or eye shields.
