GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this position is to operate various pieces of heavy equipment in the operation and maintenance of the County’s facilities and infrastructures. This includes working primarily in the rip rap department, maintaining and greasing equipment, assisting with plant maintenance, and ensuring customer vehicles are safely loaded. The operator also performs tasks such as cleaning up debris, maintaining cleanliness, running errands for important purchases, and performing pre-shift checks. This position performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to the supervisor. Additionally, assists staff with maintenance and repair duties, as required.

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or equivalent, and one (1) year of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:
Required: Valid driver's license. MSHA Miner Training.
Preferred: None.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is heavy work which requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in a high-risk environment with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental stress that requires a range of safety and other precautions such as being subject to potential physical violence or similar situations where conditions cannot be controlled.
