Overview:
Oversee all the manufacturing food safety and quality as well as continuous improvement initiative. Initiates or consults on projects related to product quality and food safety.
Job Description:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in troubleshooting with USDA-FSIS and FDA regulatory issues and food safety or quality deviations.
- Provide support to manufacturing plants in the absence of the Senior Quality Manager
- Responsible for communicating and working across all functions and levels on changes to food safety and product quality programs and procedures
- Develop and lead integrated process management teams to develop food safety and quality monitoring programs
- Responsible for reviewing and managing food safety and quality documentation for suppliers
- Liaison between training and FSQA to ensure training materials are kept up to date per procedural and program changes
- Review the completion of adequate RCA and corrective actions for non-conformance in the FSQA system (deviations, customer complaints, FSIS non-compliance reports, etc.)
- Oversee Quality System performance and site KPI’s and develop helps develop goals for each location
- Participate in cross functional teams to ensure the continuous, on-going improvement of processes, methods, productivity, and quality while reducing costs.
- Assist manufacturing location with any audits or certifications as a food safety resource including but not limited to FSIS Food Safety Audits, SQF certification audits, and retailer audits.
- Conduct internal audits and employee interviews
- Provide concise and timely feedback to the appropriate individuals regarding issues
- Other duties as assigned
Education and/or Experience
- BS degree in a Food Science, Meat Science or related discipline is preferred (appropriate higher level technical plant work experience will be considered as an alternative)
- Five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in Quality Assurance, Food Safety or a related field in a meat processing facility.
- Must have a solid understanding of SQF, HACCP/SSOP regulatory requirements.
Language Skills
- Fluency in the English language
- Must possess good oral and written communication skills
- Must be able to effectively communicate with other employees regardless of their position and experience level.
Mathematical Skills
- Technical level mathematical skills necessary for chemical and microbiological analysis
- Ability to analyze statistical data
Reasoning Ability
- Must be analytical and possess good problem solving attributes.
- Must be able to maintain objectivity.
- Must possess the ability to evaluate information provided from technical resources and draw sound conclusions, or make logical decisions based on that data.
- Must be able to read and interpret FSIS and FDA regulations and required certification codes.
Certificates, Licenses and Registration
- Should be HACCP certified or trained.
- Must be an SQF Certified Practitioner or able to attend training and become certified within 6 months after being selected for the position.
Physical Demands
- Ability to stand or work standing or walking for extended periods.
- Ability to lift at least 30 pounds overhead.
- Ability to work for long hours on occasion.
Work Environment
- Ability to work in a hot or cold environment (26°F -110°F)
- Ability to work around loud machinery (hearing protection provided)
- Ability to work in a meat processing environment (blood, juices, etc.)
- Ability to travel overnight occasionally.
