Description
The Supervisor of Food Safety plans, directs and implements quality, regulatory, safety and environment compliance-based programs and activities to ensure the highest standards of quality and safety.
Requirements
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise and support Quality Laboratory Technicians, including daily task assignment, training, performance feedback, and scheduling
- Ensure laboratory testing (microbiological, chemical, physical, and sensory, as applicable) is conducted accurately, on time, and in accordance with approved methods
- Review, verify, and trend quality data to identify deviations, recurring issues, and opportunities for improvement
- Oversee implementation and adherence to floor-level Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), GMPs, SSOPs, and food safety programs
- Conduct routine floor audits to ensure compliance with company standards, regulatory requirements (FDA, USDA, OSHA as applicable), and customer specifications
- Act as a quality presence on the production floor, partnering with Production, Sanitation, and Maintenance to resolve quality and food safety issues in real time
- Investigate nonconformances, deviations, and customer complaints; lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA)
- Ensure proper documentation, record retention, and traceability in alignment with FSMA and internal quality systems
- Support internal and external audits, including regulatory inspections and customer audits; assist with preparation and follow-up actions
- Verify product holds, releases, and disposition decisions in accordance with established procedures
- Train production and quality staff on SOPs, food safety, allergen control, and quality expectations
- Monitor environmental and process controls to ensure consistent product quality and food safety
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, efficiency, and risk reduction
- Enforce company policies and safety standards within the quality team and across production areas
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in Food Science or related filed
AND/OR
- Combination of education and experience equal to 5+ years
- HACCP Certification
- Ability to obtain SQF Practitioner
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
- Experience in food safety audits
