Position Summary:

 

The Quality Engineer will report to the Quality Manager and work closely with the Quality, Process, Desing and Manufacturing departments to address non-conforming material issues (Red Tags), initiate and manage corrective actions, develop procedures and best practices, and identify and resolve other quality issues. The Quality Engineer will use quality and problem-solving tools (e.g. root cause analysis) to bring about solutions. This person will work with all aspects of Lake Cable and with a variety of personnel to create and maintain world class quality at Lake Cable.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Work with other departments and customers on system improvements to prevent non-conforming material
  • Oversee the corrective action system, lead corrective action teams and assist in implementing corrective action solutions
  • Perform root cause analysis and data analysis to assure corrective actions are working and effective
  • Write procedures for the Quality Department and assist others in writing procedures
  • Create and report periodic quality metrics
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives
  • Evaluate the equipment needs of the Quality Department and research available options
  • Support quality testing and inspection when necessary
  • Coordinate with sister facilities to share and apply best practices
  • Perform other duties not necessarily outlined above as assigned
  • Adhere to company practices, disciplines, and accepted standards of ethics and behavior

 

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to conduct tests and inspections of product and processes to evaluate quality and  performance of product
  • Analytical skills with the ability to use logic and reasoning in identifying the strength and weakness of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
  • Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers (deductive reasoning) and combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions including finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events (inductive reasoning)
  • Ability to quickly and accurately compare similarities and differences or patterns
  • Ability to observe and obtain information from all relevant sources, use  this information along with individual judgment to determine whether products and processed comply with standards
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, multi-task and resolve problems
  • Excellent interpersonal, listening, and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Proficient using to use Microsoft Office applications – Outlook, Word, Excel, and Access Data Base as well as
  • Maintain work area in a neat, clean, and orderly fashion, assuring the safest work environment possible 
  • Experience with polymer processing (extrusion preferred)
  • Knowledge of and ability to use problem solving tools such as root cause analysis, 5 Why, and fishbone diagrams
  • Ability to lead teams and run meetings
  • Ability to evaluate and analyze complex process data
  • Experience with working in multi-functional teams
  • Ability to present data and conclusions to technical and non-technical audiences

 

Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Engineering in one of the following specialties: Quality, Industrial, Manufacturing, Electrical or Processing.
  • 3+ years in a Quality Engineer role

 

 

Work Environment:

 

While performing the essential functions of the job, the employee operates within both a laboratory and plant environment.  While working in the laboratory the employee uses standard office equipment such as a computer, telephone, printer, photocopier and files; while working in the plant the employee is routinely exposed to vibration and continuous noise from operating machinery.
