POSITION SUMMARY
The Quality System Manager is responsible for directing the quality assurance function, supervising product inspections, and assuring that all products meet quality standards.
**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS **
Manages and directs quality assurance functions including raw material/production inspection, defines quality standards, and supervises quality inspectors. Promotes open communication between employees and management.
Reviews and approves/disapproves customer drawings, specifications, and related production documents. Reviews and approves drawing revisions.
Enforces quality standards based on customer specifications and corporate quality goals.
Evaluates production orders to define inspection procedures and specifies inspection tools. Develops and implements piece part inspection and sorting plans. Prepares quality Job Process Control Sheets.
Trains and instructs employees and subordinates on inspection procedures, use of inspection tools, and proper documentation of inspection results.
Provides on-going leadership to staff by developing goals and objectives; identifying gaps, assessing abilities, and developing plan to address shortcomings.
Evaluates inspection data. Recommends adjustments needed in production operations to maintain quality and/or correct errors. May inspect borderline parts and designate "approval/disapproval". Resolves routine and complex problems relating to quality and inspection.
Evaluates parts returned by customers. Provides Non-Conforming and Corrective Action Reports.
Coordinates product identification and certification procedures to insure traceability of materials.
Conducts quality meetings with subordinates and other employees to solve/resolve quality problems. Confers and corresponds with customers on inspection results. Conducts failure analysis, charts data, and recommends Corrective Action procedures.
Supervises maintenance, storage and proper use of inspection tools and instruments. Calibrates all tools and measuring equipment for inspection and manufacturing, checks instruments for proper calibration. Contacts service vendors when needed for inspection equipment repairs or calibration.
Generates monthly Scrap Reports and Quality Performance Reports. Maintains records and files of quality information such as specifications, procedures, inspection data, charts, defects, certifications, customer drawings, requests for Corrective Action and maintains upgrades to the Quality Assurance Manual.
Operates inspection instruments and tools such as optical comparators, micrometers, calipers, and other devices. Operates office equipment such as telephone, calculator, and computer terminal.
Performs tasks in plant and office environments. Occasional travel to customer or vendor sites. Moves and handles light to moderately heavy weight items.
Communicates quality policy. Enforces quality rules. Performs other tasks as requested.
All other duties as needed.
MINIMUM SKILLS AND ABILITITES
High school education supplemented by advanced technical training in quality control, at least 3 years’ experience as a Quality Manager in metal stamping environment.
Ability to give and receive effective direction to/from others ensuring objectives are met or exceeded.
Read/understand quality standards, work instructions, safety regulations
Mathematical aptitude to read/understand piece prints, measuring equipment, material checks, machinery, and profitability of processes.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Sedentary position
Ability to travel by various public and private transport methods.
20/20 vision required with or without correction.
Use of hands 100% of the workday.
Ability to stand or walk 25% of the workday.
Twisting, bending, leaning frequently during the workday.
Office environment, occasional exposure to loud noises, dust, solvents, coolants, and oils.
