POSITION SUMMARY

The Quality Manager is responsible for ensuring our products are manufactured according to established standards. This leader will work closely with Engineering and Operations teams to ensure requirements for new products transfer to manufacturing, conduct root cause & reliability assessments, and implement corrective & preventative actions. The ideal candidate will have experience interacting with customers, leading transformational change, and conducting near miss safety reviews.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

QUALITY MANGEMENT SYSTEM & LEADERSHIP

  • Manage and lead all aspects of the quality function.
  • Report to management on the performance and state of the Quality Management System, the risks and opportunities for improvement, and to ensure the QMS conforms to the requirements of the ISO 9001 Standards.
  • Plan, coordinate, and direct quality control and assurance activities with incoming, in process and final inspection to ensure conformance to requirements and standards.
  • Establish and maintain quality policies, objectives and procedures to meet QMS and customer requirements.
  • Staff, develop and lead the quality Team comprised of Inspectors, Technicians, and Engineers.
  • Provide guidance and training to quality, manufacturing, or engineering groups in the use of core tools: APQP; FMEA, control plans, MSA, statistical techniques and PPAP and other requirements.
  • Work cross functionally to create a strong quality culture while promoting quality as a shared responsibility throughout the organization.
  • Manage the audit program for the QMS. Develop and execute the internal audit plan. Coordinate and participate in second and third party audits as required.
  • Monitor, coordinate, and lead activities regarding nonconformance control. Ensure the timely containment, segregation and disposition of nonconforming product. Report to management on the status of product and process nonconformities generated internally, from suppliers and customer returns.
  • Oversee and report on the status of Corrective Action. Assist process owners with RCCA and verification of effectiveness.
  • Work closely with management to identify, monitor and report on KPIs. Develop and maintain the tools, methods and feedback mechanisms for internal quality management (scrap, first pass yield), measurement and validation (gage R&R) and preventive quality (FMEA, Control Plans).
  • Performs internal Audits, Reliability & Validation studies, and Safety Near Miss reviews; completes related corrective and preventive actions
  • Supports New Product Introductions (NPI) to ensure critical quality parameters are established and effectively transferred to manufacturing.
  • Responsible to facilitate management review meetings and report on the performance of the quality system and metrics.

COST OF QUALITY & OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE

  • Establish a process to track the Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) and lead projects to drive improvement.
  • Lead material review board (MRB) meetings and provide leadership for the effective disposition of non-conforming material; communicate performance to leadership (scrap, rework, etc.)
  • Drive the adoption of 80/20 and continuous improvement to improve the Cost of Quality, production capacity and operating costs.
  • Conduct root cause analyses on significant issues and implements effective containment, corrective, and preventative actions.

  • Experience working with site certifications such as ISO9001 and ISO14001
  • Previous responsibility for the safety, quality, production, and people management in a production unit
  • Knowledge of 80/20 and Lean tools
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal problem-solving, and project management skills
  • Individual must be proficient in blueprint interpretation, geometric tolerancing and statistics.
  • Must be computer literate in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Requires understanding of the capabilities and practical uses of various types of measuring equipment: basic mechanical instruments, complex programmable vision systems and computerized data collection systems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field. Relevant work experience in lieu of degree + 5 yrs relevant experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment in a tight tolerance industry Formal Training or Certification in Lean, Root Cause Analysis or Six Sigma Lead Auditor training/certification for ISO9001 or AS9100 Rotating Equipment experience (preferred) Certified Quality Manager (CQM) preferred.
