SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Quality Manager is responsible for the planning, leadership, and operational execution of the organization’s quality deployment and process improvement efforts. A key responsibility is to drive investigation, analysis, and resolution of all quality issues reported by internal and external customers using a data-driven approach. As the functional leader of plant quality, this position is the critical interface with other departments and executive management. The Quality Manager leads the Quality education and training of our staff while collaborating with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Operations to support company improvement initiatives. The position has direct line reporting responsibility for up to 20 employees, including quality coordinators, inspectors, supervisors, and engineers (exempt and non-exempt).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Manage all aspects of the plant quality operation to include audits, inspection, quality engineering, first article reporting, non-conforming product management, and supplier quality.
- Provides direct line management to all quality department team members
- Set appropriate goals for department staff.
- Evaluate and enhance quality standards, technologies, and approaches.
- Act as a strong advocate for quality in the New Product Development Process.
- Represent the company externally in conversations with key customers and partners. Interface directly with our customer's engineering and quality staff.
- Establish a sustainable culture of continuous improvement.
- Synthesize quality performance data for presentation to executive leadership.
- Drive improvement to the department key performance metrics (COPQ, QPPM, Supplier Quality QPPM, DMR/RMA rate).
- Act as a champion in the Internal Audit programs (LPA, POR audits).
- Executes necessary precautions to ensure safety and compliance with Company, OSHA, and other standards and regulations.
- Comply with applicable environmental, health and safety laws and regulations, Company policy and accepted safe work practices.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS:
- American Society of Quality CQE, CQM
- Six Sigma
- Lean Sensei desirable
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering or Quality discipline with 7-10 years of demonstrated success leading and managing Quality or manufacturing organizations in the machining, semiconductor equipment, automotive or medical device sector (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Advanced Knowledge of ASME Y14.5GD&T Techniques
- Ability to write process descriptions, assembly, and manufacturing instructions.
- Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Visio, Word, Project, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Interface with customers
- Read and interpret manufacturing drawings, “Blueprints”, and a solid understanding of GD&T.
- Ability to read and interpret customer specification documents
- Extract vital parameters from customer drawings and engineering documents
- Carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to cope with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS WHILE PERFORMING THE JOB:
- Occasionally required to stand, walk, push, pull, stoop, kneel, or bend to the floor.
- Frequently required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Occasionally lifting and/or moving items up to 40 pounds.
- Close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Near vision acuity required with or without reasonable accommodation for reading instrumentation and documentation, dial and digital gauges, blueprints, and precision measuring instruments used in the inspection of coating operations.
- Handling of delicate parts.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT OF THE JOB:
- Regularly exposed to moving equipment and mechanical parts.
- Occasionally exposed to toxic chemicals (machine coolants, solvents such as methanol, IPA, Acetone).
- Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
- Skin exposure to oils and cutting fluids.
- Possible breathing of fumes, odors, dust, and mist.
- Moderate noise levels from the office environment.
- The employee will be required to use personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent exposure to hazardous materials commonly used in a manufacturing environment (i.e., safety glasses and shoes, gloves, ear plugs/covers, mask, cleanroom suit).
