Quality Control Layout Technicians are responsible for ALL activities involving tooling qualifications, PPAP, gage calibration & MSA’s, & capability studies. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to: Assist in investigating & resolving quality related issues.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Required to have a basic knowledge of Trigonometry.
  • Required to know how to operate all CMM’s.
  • Perform all dimensional checks for PPAP requirements, production start-up verification, & others as required.
  • Required to know Blueprint reading.
  • Required to know GD & T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
  • Basic knowledge of X-ray equipment & its use.
  • Must be able to read printouts from all CMM’s & direct required adjustments based on those results.
  • Required to know how to operate the optical comparator and profilometers.
  • Required to know how to use micrometers, calipers, and depth micrometers.
  • Required to know PPAP procedures per AIAG requirements for sample submissions.
  • Must be accurate and precise in measurements, both as presented to the customer for sample layouts and to production for first piece and dimensional checks.
  • Basic knowledge of SPC concepts and applications.
  • Required to know how to perform MSA studies (Measurement System Analysis)/ Gage R&R’s.
  • Required to know the GAGEtrak system for calibration recording & tracking.
  • Basic knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word…).
  • Other jobs as assigned by the Layout Technician Foreperson, Quality Engineer, and/or Quality Manager.
  • Work in safe manner to prevent injury to self or other employees. Report any unsafe conditions.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment.
  • Capable and willing to work overtime.
  • Good attendance record is required (for initial bid & advancement to Level I).
  • MUST BE WILLING TO BE TRAINED. Participate in training programs deemed necessary.
  • Required to complete paperwork associated with the job. (reports, records, and charts, etc.).
  • Perform other associated duties, functions or work as may be needed or assigned to continue the productive operation of the company
  • Actively works to assist QA Manager to assure quality objectives and goals are being met.
  • Must follow all safety rules and policies as set forth by OSHA guidelines and Pace Industries policies and procedures as outlined in the employee manual.
  • A test is to be required for this position.
  • Basic maintenance on CMM’s. *see attached maintenance list
  • Assist QA Systems Manager in fulfilling PPAP submission requirements. Maintaining of torque testing program (adjustment, calibration, recording…).
  • Incoming inspection of supplier tools & components.

Requirements to Advance to Layout Technician – Quality Tech I

  • 6 mth experience as Layout Technician - Quality Tech II position
  • Hands on test to demonstrate CMM programming proficiency.
  • Basic repair on CMM’s (Hands on assessment). *see attached maintenance list
  • Advanced understanding of GD & T (written test given).
  • Advanced knowledge & use of X-ray equipment.

Layout Tech – Quality Tech I (Additional duties to be learned upon becoming Quality Tech I)

  • Operate & program laser scanner (Faro arm).
