Quality Inspector (Weld / Heavy Fabrication)

Location:Harvey, IL

Type: Contract

Shift:1st or 2nd (flexible)

Position Overview

This is ahands-on Quality Inspector roleinside a heavy fabrication environment.

This is on the floor, inspecting large weldments, working directly with production, and catching issues before they become problems.

Must-Have

• Weld inspection experience (AWS D1.1 environment)
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and weld symbols
• Experience in heavy fabrication / structural steel
• Strong understanding of standard + metric measurements
• Comfortable using inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, weld gauges, etc.)
• Ability to identify weld defects visually and with tools
• Inspect fabricated steel and large weldments for quality and spec compliance
• Verify weld integrity and adherence to AWS standards
• Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and drawings
• Document findings and create inspection reports
• Initiate and support corrective actions when needed
• Work directly with production, quality, and leadership on issues
• Use tools like fillet gauges, V-WAC gauges, calipers, micrometers, thread gauges

**Nice to Have

**

• CWI or NDT experience
• Exposure to PFMEA, PPAP, APQP
• Understanding of GD&T
• Strong computer/documentation skills
• Someone from welding or fabrication moving into inspection
• Inspectors who have worked on large, complex weldments
• People who are detail-oriented but not slow or rigid
• Someone who can communicate issues clearly on the floor
