Job Summary
GA’s Electromagnetic Systems (EMS) Group focuses on the military and commercial applications of advanced electromagnetic technologies, including power generation and distribution, magnetic levitation, laser and weapons systems, and systems design and engineering. The EMS Group supports government customers, which include the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, the Department of Transportation as well as a range of commercial customers.
Under limited supervision this position is responsible for inspecting a wide variety of parts, assemblies, tooling fixtures and material to ensure compliance with customer requirements, company specifications, and quality requirements. Sets up, operates, inspects, tests, and adjusts new and reworked tools, dies, gauges, jigs and fixtures for conformance to engineering drawings and specifications. Maintains, processes, and compiles a variety of confidential and sensitive electronic and hard copy reports, records and statistics. Assignments are typically non-routine where judgment and assessment are required to resolve moderately complex issues.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:- Inspects optical components and devices, laser diode devices, machined parts, components, assemblies and materials to ensure compliance with appropriate regulatory guidelines (Military Standards, ASTM and ANSI, and ASME Code). Provides various electronic and hard copy reports of inspections and notifies appropriate parties including project engineers.
- Inspects components and devices according to MIL-C-675C and MIL-PRF-13830B. Responsible for cleaning and visually inspecting all optical elements prior to use.
- Inspect optical and mechanical elements for surface quality and optical and mechanical dimensions, working from operations sheets, drawings and specifications.
- May observe testing and provide oversight, as necessary, to verify compliance with requirements.
- May interact with and provide responses to regulatory agencies and customers during their audits and review of company inspection and calibration activities.
- May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
- Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
- Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Job Qualifications
- Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Desired optical inspection experience and skills in handling and cleaning optical elements, utilizing optical test measuring devices such as interferometers, polarimeter, vision inspection system, scratch-dig tool, autocollimator, etc.
- Experience using basic hand and measuring tools including micrometers, gauges, calipers, height gages, etc.
- Must be customer focused and possess: (1) ability to read and understand engineering drawings and specifications, and perform mathematical computations; (2) good communication skills to effectively interface with all levels of employees including management; (3) ability to interpret complex information and respond to a variety of complex issues; (4) ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information; and (5) good computer skills (Microsoft Excel).
- Ability to work independently or in a team environment is essential as is the ability to work extended hours as required.
