JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary /Objective

Verifies conformance of product to specifications identified in the Quality Specification book for each part, rejecting nonconforming parts to be scrapped or approving conforming parts to be shipped. Performs First Part Approval, conducts In-Process Audits, Random Cosmetic Audits and updates Quality Management and Manufacturing Management as needed. Supports R&D activities regarding dimension testing, fit and function tests, as well as cosmetic audits. Documents audit results.

Essential Function

  • Supports company production and shipment of quality products, by following the Quality Management System.
  • Identifies appropriate Quality Specification (QS) book for each product to be audited.
  • Pulls the audit form and selects “First Part” or “In Process” box on each form.
    • Reviews specifications, blue prints, work directions and manufacturing notes in the Quality Specification book.
    • Weighs each part and confirms that weight is within acceptable limits.
    • Verifies color of the part as indicated in the QS book
    • Takes measurements of length, width, height and depth of product, as appropriate.
    • Measures wall thickness of product.
    • Inspects the part for cosmetic flaws.
    • If the part is passed, the form is signed, manufacturing management is approved to continue production, and the approved part is moved to the machine.
    • If the part is rejected, first part approval is not given and manufacturing is informed of required changes. If the product is in production when the part is rejected, then production is stopped and manufacturing is informed of required changes.
  • Quality Auditors will perform assigned quality audits throughout continued production, assembly and prior to shipment of products to maintain the required QS standards.
  • Quality Auditor will professionally communicate with other departments, supervisors and management teams, as required to ensure quality standards of all products.
  • Complete required manual or computerized documentation.
  • Follow safety policies and guidelines.
  • Wear proper protective equipment as required for assignment.

Qualifications


Competencies

  • Quality Auditor must have core understanding of Quality System Management and the Quality Policy.
  • Quality Auditor must read each blueprint, accurately and completely understand the tolerances identified in that document.
  • Verify color match by simple visual inspection or using the photo spectrometer.
  • Ability to use precision measuring equipment: calipers, pin gauges, micrometer and pull gauge.
  • Measure wall thickness using nondestructive instruments: ultrasonic gauges and micrometers.
  • Inspect parts, identify and mark cosmetic flaws including knife trim and flame trim, possible dye lines, streaks and any other process imperfection.
  • The Quality Auditor must perform outlined audits and compare the results with the specifications identified in the Quality Specification book, to accept or reject the product.
  • Must possess excellent math skills including use of fractions and decimals.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with other departments, supervisors and management as required.
