The Quality Inspection Engineer builds, maintains, and improves inspection plans that ensure product conformity, regulatory compliance, and efficient flow through incoming, in‑process, and final inspection. The role translates drawings, specifications, and customer requirements into clear, inspector‑ready documentation; defines sampling methods and acceptance criteria; and configures system data (e.g., SAP) to enable accurate execution and traceable records. The planner collaborates closely with QA, QC, Engineering, Production, and Supply Chain to support launches, changes, and daily production while reducing defects and preventing escapes.
Areas of responsibility include;
Inspection Planning & Control
Develop and maintain risk‑based Inspection Plans / Inspection Control Plans (ICPs) covering incoming, in‑process, final, and special inspections. Define inspection points, sampling plans, inspection frequency, and acceptance criteria aligned to customer, drawing, and AS9100 requirements. Configure/maintain inspection characteristics, routings, and quality records in SAP or quality planning systems.
Interpretation of Engineering & Customer Requirements
Translate engineering drawings, models, specifications, and notes into measurable inspection requirements. Identify and control Key Characteristics (KCs), Safety Characteristics (SCs) and critical items; coordinate with Engineering to resolve ambiguities or conflicts.
Measurement & Test Methods/Gage & Metrology Coordination
Select appropriate measurement methods suitable for feature types and tolerances. Define verification steps, fixtures, and test sequences; align with industry and customer standards. Identify required gages/fixtures for each plan and ensure availability, capability, and calibration in coordination with Metrology/Calibration.
Supplier & Incoming Inspection Support/First Article Inspection (FAI)
Define incoming inspection requirements and special verifications; align supplier expectations with internal requirements. Prepare/support AS9102 FIA packages, ensuring all drawing characteristics are accounted for and sequenced for verification. Ensure changes trigger partial or full FAI re‑accomplishment as required.
Documentation & Record Control
Create and maintain revision‑controlled inspection plans, check sheets, visual work instructions, and quality alerts accessible at point of use. Ensure documentation is auditable and supports production readiness and compliance.
Systems & Tools
Use SAP and digital inspection planning tools to manage inspection data, notifications, and routings; leverage SPC/analysis tools when applicable.
