We have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Quality Engineer to join our team in Poway, CA.
This person is responsible for ensuring mechanical aerospace components and assemblies meet engineering, regulatory, and customer quality requirements across machining, fabrication, welding, and additive manufacturing processes. This position provides advanced technical leadership in GD&T interpretation, mechanical drawings review, inspection planning, welding inspection, First Article Inspection (FAI), and inspection optimization. The mechanical quality engineer will partner with Manufacturing Engineering, Design Engineering and Supply Chain teams to maintain compliance with AS9100 and aerospace industry standards, while driving continuous improvement and inspection efficiency.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Serve as a technical authority for mechanical product quality supporting machined, fabricated, welded, and additive manufactured components.
  • Interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications using GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
  • Perform detailed drawing reviews to validate manufacturability, inspection feasibility, and dimensional control strategies.
  • Evaluate weld quality and ensure compliance with aerospace welding specifications AWS D17.1.
  • Develop and review First Article Inspections per AS9102.
  • Develop Reduced Inspection Plans and implement sampling plans based on process capability.
  • Manage non-conformance reports, lead root cause investigations utilizing problem solving methodologies and  implement corrective actions to eliminate recurring issues.
  • Drive MRB activities to disposition nonconforming product
  • Ensure compliance with AS9100, customer specifications and internal quality procedures
  • Support internal and external audits including those performed by regulatory agencies and DCMA
  • Assist inspectors by providing technical support through inspection plans, inspection methods and utilizing measurement equipment including CMMs/ PC-DMIS, Romer Arm, and Blue-light scanning.
  • Provide direction and mentor junior engineers and inspectors.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Support additional duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications

  • Typically requires a bachelor's or master's degree in engineering or related discipline and eight or more years of related experience with a bachelor's degree or six or more years with a master's degree.May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5), and drawing interpretation of machining, fabrication, welding and additive parts
  • Experience with First Article Inspection (AS9102), inspection plans and sampling strategies
  • Experience with MRB dispositions and root cause analysis
  • Experience in design engineering or manufacturing engineering a plus.
  • Familiarity with CMM, Roamer Arm inspection and measurement systems.
  • Preferred AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or equivalent welding inspection certification.
  • Preferred SAP experience
  • Must have excellent communication and leadership skills in order to interface effectively with internal and external customers and regulatory personnel.
  • Able to work extended hours as required.
