Job Overview:

The Quality Engineer position is an amazing opportunity to use a technical background and branch into the realm of quality assurance. This position offers cross-functional collaboration and direct communication with customers to find root causes to internal and external concerns.

The Quality Engineer supports all quality initiatives that will drive the business towards improved customer satisfaction. This includes working with the process engineering team to improve output. Responsibilities will focus on complaint management and analysis and multiple aspects of the company quality management systems. 

Essential Functions:

  • Complaint management, handling, and analysis; root-cause determination, follow-up and follow-through on corrective actions, and direct interface with customer on product quality complaints/non-conformances
  • Quality engineering – identifying and assisting in process enhancements for product quality improvement
  • Root-cause investigation for internal non-conformances and follow-up/through on corrective actions
  • Monitors and develops programs to ensure testing accuracy and efficiency, in collaboration with R&D and Manufacturing Operations (Process Engineering) as necessary
  • Develops and analyzes statistical data and product specifications to determine quality standards
  • Collect and analyze statistical data of raw material and finished product test results, and evaluate trends; trend analysis of finished product quality metrics for proactive actions based on analysis
  • Drive scrap reduction and action plans collaborating with Process Engineering and Floor Leaders
  • Develops Quality Improvement Plans for specific products
  • Maintain process auditing schedule, especially for processes that affect product quality)
  • Functions as back up to Quality Control Supervisor for 3 shifts, 5 FTE union employees
  • Assists in calculating monthly SQC/1st Pass Rate review with Manufacturing Operations to identity product and process improvement opportunities.

 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in chemical engineering, material science;
  • 2-5 years of previous work experience in a technical/R&D role,  quality assurance,  quality engineering. polymer processing background preferred.
  • SQC analytical skills; statistical software (e.g., Minitab) experience a plus
  • ISO 9001 background or have worked in such an environment
  • Ability to work with polymer and material characterization instruments
  • CQE certification or Lean/Six Sigma training preferred
