Job Description

Quality Engineering Lead

We are seeking an experienced Quality Engineering Lead to join our dynamic team in our Electronics Center of Excellence (ECE) at Ensign Bickford and Defense. The successful candidate will oversee a team of quality engineers and quality inspectors, ensuring the highest standards of product and process quality.

  • Ensure adherence to safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of quality engineers (QE) and quality inspectors (QI).
  • Creates QE and QI goals, develops team through Individual Development Plans (IDP), conducts performance reviews and regular one on ones.
  • Responsible for training and onboarding new employees.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive timely resolution to quality issues.
  • Monitor quality data to identify trends and improve first pass yield (FPY).
  • Distributes program workload to QEs and QIs to support program team’s needs to support customer deliverables.
  • Supports the Value Stream Manager with activities to achieve SQDC performance targets.
  • Analyze and report on quality performance metrics and trends.
  • Supports maintenance of an effective Quality Management System with the other sites
  • Responsible for Value Stream NCR, CAPA and COPQ performance tracking and the associated Paretos.
  • Supports their QEs with assigned programs from proposal through shipment to customer while complying with customer requirements.
  • Supports and guides the program QE during customer quality audits and internal audits and approves responses.
  • Identifies, leads/facilitates effective RCCA for failures involving their Value Stream.
  • Reviews product drawings and approves Inspection Plans for their QEs.
  • May act as a CCB/NCRB alternate member depending on experience
  • Uses Lean Manufacturing tools to improve quality and reduce defects.
  • Interfaces with a variety of personnel including Technicians, Production Supervisors, Planners, Program Managers, Product Engineers and Design Engineers in support of Program needs and customer deliverables.
  • Communicates with suppliers and customers concerning program quality requirements.
  • Stay updated with industry best practices and emerging technologies in quality management.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in quality engineering within aerospace and defense electronics manufacturing.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Proficiency in quality management tools and software.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Detailed knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., ISO 9001, AS9100).
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Root cause and corrective and preventative action experience
  • Experience in Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement with strong problem-solving skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite software
  • ERP Experience

Desired skills:

  • Certifications such as Six Sigma, Lean, or CQE.
