Position Summary: The Quality Engineer is responsible for control & monitoring of quality to ensure the production of Resistoflex products are consistent with customer specifications, industry standards and regulatory requirements. The Quality Engineer is responsible for the development, implementation, and improvement of systems controls by working cross functionally with Engineering, Operations, Suppliers, and Customers. The Quality Engineer will use advanced concepts, practices, and procedures that will drive a focus on exceeding expectations for the end users of Resistoflex products made by the value streams. |
Principle Duties (includes, but is not limited to): · Coordinate a prioritized approach to developing, implementing, and sustaining process control plans for manufacturing & transactional processes in the value stream. · Develop, implement, and maintain analyses of both internal and external quality escapes. · Drive improvements using the Crane Business System by identifying improvement opportunities. Utilize “5-Why” Root Cause and other structured problem-solving tools for diagnosing and resolving external and internal quality escapes and rework. Drive implementation of immediate containment actions and process based preventative measures to ensure critical quality issues do not reoccur. · Responsible for understanding key drivers and implementing appropriate process improvement action necessary to drive year over year improvements in Cost of Poor Quality. · Must have demonstrated proficiency working with special process quality control methods, including, but not limited to painting, welding and heat-treating processes as this position is responsible for ensuring critical process variable controls and appropriate internal auditing requirements. · Interprets engineering drawings or formulas and confers with management or engineering staff to determine quality and reliability standards. · Records test data and reports such data through written report or computer transmissions internally and externally. · Assists Quality Assurance Manager with third party inspections and audits. · Reviews customer specifications and quality plans as required and communicates issues and concerns as appropriate. · Liaisons with customers’ auditors and ensures the execution of corrective action and compliance with customers’ specification. · Assists manufacturing in resolving technical problems by interpreting standards and procedures. · Evaluates both system and product quality through quality audits to ensure an outstanding quality system is maintained plant wide. Successful candidate must complete required external classes within one year from date of job assignment. · Assists in the performing of the calibration of measuring equipment to ensure the equipment meets the necessary accuracy. Performs Gage R & R studies on measuring equipment to ensure equipment meets the needs of the measurement system. · Evaluates, reports, and assigns corrective action as necessary on returned materials from customers. · Performs duties of any inspection area as required. · Manufacturing operations require the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to eye safety glasses, hearing protection, safety shoes and any other required PPE. · Must be flexible to work overtime and weekends on occasion if needed. · Requires lifting 25 lbs. · Requires approximately 5% travel to customer and supplier sites to support development and problem solving. |
Essential Qualifications / Experience: · B.A. or B.S. degree in Quality, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering, or related field. · Knows and applies advanced concepts, practices and procedures of assigned product or program, Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. · Demonstrated ability to plan and accomplish goals based on experience and judgment. · Proven history as a structured problem solver (Six Sigma, etc.). Basic statistical skills required. Use of statistical software helpful (i.e., Minitab). · Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. · Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal staff and outside professionals. · Proficient in Excel and other Microsoft Office software. · Strong background in ISO 9001, ITAF 16949, and other related quality standards. · Extensive knowledge of machining, fabrication, and assembly operations. Preferred Qualifications/Experience · Exposure to lean manufacturing, six sigma, and 5S practices. · Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a quality systems control position in a manufacturing environment, with demonstrated record of driving significant improvements in quality metrics. · ASQ-CQE Quality Engineer Certification · Proficient in Minitab · Proficient with data analysis, statistics, and applied mathematics. · Demonstrated ability to understand process & product specifications. · Basic understanding of industrial assembly, fabrication, and machining processes. |
