The Quality Engineer III works with minimal supervision and uses experience, applied skills, ingenuity and established procedures to control and monitor quality, ensuring products and processes are consistent within defined customer, industry and regulatory requirements.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, Suppliers, Auditors, Contracts and Customers
  • Monitor quality systems to ensure effectiveness through internal audits and metrics including scrap, warranty, rework, and customer satisfaction
  • Analyze data to evaluate product quality through statistical studies
  • Involvement with Six Sigma, Kaizen and Lean projects/training (depending on employee’s development level)
  • Champion root cause analysis and corrective action projects
  • Support disposition of nonconforming materials and produce reports regarding nonconformance of products or processes, root cause analyses, or quality trends
  • Monitor and implement regulatory standards and trends in quality control
  • Mentor others in quality and analytical projects including kaizen activity
  • Support site quality strategy development and deployment
  • Perform supplier reviews/approvals and monitoring including material certifications
  • Identify product or process key characteristics and specify sampling procedures
  • Drive qualification of product and process improvements to ensure high levels of sustainable quality
  • Provide quality support for new product development and introduction including contract review
  • Support ISO 9001:2015, customer, compliance, certification and regulatory audits
  • Prepare PPAP inputs and upload into customer portal
  • Provide support for failure analysis and reliability testing as required
  • Review and approve quality document changes - Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), Manufacturing Change Orders (MCOs), deviations
  • Support continuous improvement for the organization by establishing priorities, methods and strategies for implementation using data to both guide the process as well as monitor the result
  • Navy documentation, customer surveys and submittals
  • Any other task assigned by supervisor or management

Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience: 4+ years of experience as a Quality Engineer in a manufacturing environment or similar manufacturing setting
  • Knowledge: Knows and applies advanced concepts, practices and procedures of assigned product or program; Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Applied proficiency with APQP/PPAP requirements
  • Skills/Abilities: Demonstrated ability to plan and accomplish goals based on experience and judgment; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal staff and outside professionals; Proficient in the use of Minitab, Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and PowerPoint
  • Education/Certification: BA or BS degree in Quality, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Operations or related field
  • Eligibility Requirement: DoD sensitive position – may be subject to a government security investigation to verify eligibility for access to classified information

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Applied proficiency or certification in Lean / Six sigma Principles and Implementation Tools
  • Educational background in Structured Problem Solving, 5S, Mistake-Proofing and process capability tools
  • ASQ CQE certification a plus
  • Welding and gearing manufacturing and inspection experience a plus

Working Conditions:

  • Standard office environment with manufacturing floor coverage
  • Work requires substantial visual concentration on detail
  • Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing (uncontrolled environment)
  • Manufacturing operations may require the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to: eye safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection and any other required PPE
  • May be exposed to environmental conditions such as loud noises, cold temperatures, confined spaces, dust or fumes for short periods of time
  • Standing: 10% *percentage is approximate and may vary depending on work task
