Team or Function Overview

You will collaborate with operations, quality technicians, and process engineering to optimize finished good performance through formulation changes and process changes.

Summary

GAF is searching for a Quality Engineer who will assist with creating and maintaining the quality culture at the plant level. The Quality Engineer will be responsible for managing plant calibrations, COA, raw material and finished goods records, work with process experts to reduce variation on finished goods and processing equipment, and assisting with meeting operational and financial business objectives (i.e. OEE, MUV, etc.).

Essential Duties

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

● Troubleshoot process or equipment upset conditions impacting OEE or uptime performance.

● Manage quality data and testing frequency to understand, improve, and define quality control through the process and products.

● Perform routine measurement system analysis (MSA) for the plant and take action based on testing results.

● Lead the execution of Quality Improvement projects using standard PI tools such as MVT/DOE, and Kepner Tregoe PSDM.

● Work with corporate Quality resources to update SOPs and GAF Quality Manual

● Retrain personnel on quality documentation such as finished product specifications, process control documents, SOPs, and calibration documents.

Train production personnel on Statistical Quality Control (SQC) as it relates to impacts on finished goods and raw material variations. Leads the application and interpretation of SQC charting as it relates to the product. Collaborate with the Quality & Technical Manager on execution.

● Manage calibrations, audits, finished products, COA records, and raw material batch tracking.

● Conduct quality audits with certifying partners and internally. Create an action plan based on audit results to improve the quality of the plant based on recommendations.

● Support product improvement and new product development efforts.

● Lead the efforts for compliance with testing protocols for finished product performance or raw material performance.

● Conduct Vendor CAPA analysis on raw materials. Collaborate with procurement, supply chain, and suppliers to find a resolution and improve upon raw material quality issues. Communicate findings to the plant.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to read and concentrate via computer data entry typing and proofreading.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and/or stairs and walk on open grating on elevated surfaces.
  • Required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • Frequent sitting, walking, and standing, and occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and balancing.
  • Frequent use of eye, hand, and finger coordination enabling the use of office machinery.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, color, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Under This Roof, We Require

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Required
  • 3+ years demonstrated experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of engineering fundamentals to include root cause analysis, statistical process control, lean/agile approaches and structured problem solving
  • Ability to translate technical data into a format/ language suitable for personnel. Preferred Qualifications
  • Intermediate skills in process hazard analysis and process safety management.
  • 3+ years demonstrated experience in a quality role
  • Demonstrated focus on continuous improvement
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team

Annual Salary Range: 78,300-100,050
