Job Overview:

DESCRIPTION:

The Quality Engineer is responsible for developing, maintaining and improving the quality systems. The Quality Engineer uses six sigma, lean, and best practices to provide technical support and problem solving related to part quality and process reliability. This position requires direct interaction and cross functional collaboration. Must work well in teams and be able to lead from start to finish teams in accomplishing projects with included metrics. Will lead and complete corrective actions as required by customers and internal needs. The Quality Engineer will coordinate PPAPs through the shop and complete all required documentation. The Quality Engineer will support the development and management of suppliers. The Quality Engineer will implement, support, and improve inspection plans to include CMM programming and inspection activities. The Quality Engineer also implements cost improvement plans to meet company financial goals. This position is responsible to plan, implement and measure the results of projects and supplies technical support in a company environment where the challenges vary as business shifts.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Takes responsibility for project activities from initiation through completion.
  • Leads Quality improvement projects through the application of Six Sigma, SPC, Lean, and Best Practices.
  • Prepares CMM programming, fixture designs and modifications in inspect product for conformance to customer requirements.
  • Coordinates PPAP activity ensuring timelines are met and final product conformance is achieved.
  • Develops inspection plans to meet customer requirements.
  • Develops and supports quality plans for the life a part through all processes.
  • Performs corrective actions needed for customer quality issues and internal nonconformances.
  • Supports preparation of bids and proposals for current and future customers.
  • Supports production needs during new job start up.
  • Participate in customer quality audits.
  • Takes responsibility for sub-tier supplier quality to ensure final product compliance.
  • Travel to customers and suppliers for development and project related activities.
  • Ensure that quality standards are understood and met by internal customers as well as suppliers.
  • Evaluates, justifies, and implements systems for modification or replacement.
  • Evaluates operating costs and implements cost improvement plans in all areas to meet company financial goals.
  • Must be proficient in reading blueprints and GD&T.
  • Researches, recommends, and develops new manufacturing support processes and promotes customer contact on related projects.
  • Supports manufacturing on technical issues related to CMM programs.
  • Dispositions non-conforming material as required.
  • Provides documentation for all projects.
  • Generates Standard Work Instructions for Quality Assurance processes.
  • Work closely with team members to provide a safe work environment.
  • Identify and eliminate safety and housekeeping hazards to minimize workplace accidents.

EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

1. Preferred minimum of a 4yr Engineering degree or equivalent

2. A minimum (5) years in an engineering or machine shop environment, or at least (5) years hands-on experience in manufacturing

3. Six Sigma Greenbelt certification preferred

4. Must be able to read, interpret and apply blueprints, including geometric tolerance symbols

5. Has knowledge and experience of machine processes and tooling

6. Has working knowledge of CAD software

7. Must have advanced PC abilities utilizing word processing, spreadsheets, CAD, database and scheduling tools

8. Must have knowledge of fixture and tooling practices

9. Must possess an organized and professional approach to managing projects

through completion,

10. Displaying strong analytical skills, ability to learn new technologies and a

strong machining base from which to build on

11. Must be able to apply Lean and Six Sigma principles

12. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills

13. Must be highly organized to handle multiple priorities

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Will work in an environment with sitting or operating for periods exceeding 9 hours, frequently walking up and down stairs and throughout the facilities, bending, stooping and stretching to work in small environments around equipment. May require moderate lifting of items up to 60 pounds and carry weight for short distances. May be exposed to various temperatures, constant vibration, dust, loud noises, oils and interaction with many people. Position requires some overtime, working before and after normal work hours and some weekends. Position may require some travel outside the area. Fast paced environment requiring flexibility and agile work techniques. May have to attend meetings before/after normal work hours including evening/dinner meetings.
