Position Summary:
The Quality Engineer will report to the Quality Manager and work closely with the Quality Supervisor to address non-conforming material issues (Red Tags), initiate and manage corrective actions, develop procedures, and best practices, and identify and resolve other quality issues. The Quality Engineer will use quality and problem-solving tools (e.g. root cause analysis) to bring about solutions. This person will work with all aspects of Lake Cable and with a variety of personnel to create and maintain world-class quality at Lake Cable.
Essential Functions:
- Administer the non-conforming material (Red Tag) system
- Identify the appropriate disposition of non-conforming material
- Record and tabulate red tag information (e.g. cost of poor quality, frequency and quantity)
- Work on system improvements to prevent non-conforming material
- Work with other departments to resolve red tags
- Administer the corrective action system
- Organize and lead corrective action teams
- Assist in implementing corrective action solutions
- Perform analyses to assure corrective actions are working and effective
- Interface with customers on quality issues
- Interface with suppliers on quality issues
- Work with procedures and best practices
- Assist in identifying where procedures will be beneficial and useful
- Write procedures for the Quality Department
- Assist others in writing procedures
- Train others on procedures and quality
- Create and report periodic quality metrics
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives
- Evaluate the equipment needs of the Quality Department and research available options
- Support quality testing and inspection when necessary
- Participate on the Safety Team
- Coordinate with Bensenville, IL plant on quality initiatives
- Perform other duties not necessarily outlined above as assigned
- Adhere to company practices, disciplines, and accepted standards of ethics and behavior
Knowledge:
- Experience with polymer processing (extrusion preferred)
- Knowledge of and ability to use problem solving tools such as root cause analysis, 5 Why, and fishbone diagrams.
- Ability to lead teams and run meetings.
- Ability to evaluate and analyze complex process data.
- Experience with working in multi-functional teams
- Ability to present data and conclusions to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Use micrometers, calipers, and other handheld measurement instruments.
- Ability to manage workload to achieve delivery dates.
- Experience with reading and interpreting industry standards.
- Must read, write, and communicate in English.

Qualifications:
- B.S. in Engineering in one of the following specialties: Quality, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Processing.
- 3+ years in a Quality Engineer role - preferred
