The Quality Engineer (QE) will provide quality assurance/engineering support during all phases of hardware development, including design, fabrication, testing and delivery, to ensure compliance with established requirements and standards. The Quality Engineer will assist the Engineering Department in activities such as process and product assessments, software/hardware integration testing and peer and other quality engineering activities, to ensure compliance to applicable requirements, policies, procedures, and standards, in support of the NASA Human Health and Performance Contract (HHPC).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for compliance with Safety, Health and Environmental plan; must be committed to a high standard of safety and comply with all applicable safety laws and all Company safety policies and rules; must report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel.
  • Responsible for compliance with the Quality Assurance Plan, policies and procedures.
  • Maintain regular and acceptable attendance level as determined by the Company
  • Complete all assigned training.
  • Comply with all applicable KBR policies, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and personal information to which access has been granted.
  • Positively represent HHPC and KBR at all times through a success-oriented and professional demeanor.
  • Review and approve Work Authorization Documents (WAD), including Task Performance Sheets (TPS), Discrepancy Reports (DR) and shipping documents. Ensure closure of all WADs as required.
  • Review Open Items for applicable WADs, and compile required metrics.
  • Review and approve Engineering drawings, documents and procedures.
  • Attend Test Readiness Reviews (TRR) and provide QE input as needed.
  • Work with Engineering and QA/QE personnel to ensure maximum product quality.
  • Proactively identify and resolve issues. Work with Engineering personnel to resolve discrepancies and issues and advise Engineering personnel as needed to recommend improvements for future WADs and other products.
  • Participate in all phases of product design reviews.
  • Review and approve flight hardware related procurement requests.
  • Work with Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) contract surveillance representatives to coordinate verification of Government Mandatory Inspection Points (GMIP).
  • Perform assessments on software-related project documents, including Software Classification Assessments/Safety Criticality Determination Assessments (SCA/SCD) Software Development Plan (SDP), Software Management Plan (SMP), Version Description Document (VDD), Software Requirement Specifications (SRS), Software Detailed Design (SDD), Software Test Plans/Procedures (STP), software related Verification and Validation document (V&VD) and software related Acceptance Data Package (ADP).
  • Assist with source inspections at outside supplier facilities as required.
  • Assist with vendor reviews for the approved fabrication vendor list.
  • Generate, update, and close nonconformances and corrective actions, and verify the effectiveness of prescribed corrective and preventive actions.
  • Identify and implement process improvements as needed. Work with QA management and Quality Management System personnel to update existing work instructions to reflect improvements and create new work instructions where appropriate.
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of all applicable processes, procedures and work instructions, and adhere to them diligently.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable QA/QE standards, guidelines, technology trends and methods, including best practices for quality assurance policies, procedures and technology.
  • Establish and maintain productive professional relationships with key customers, stakeholders, vendors and peers.
  • Ensure resolution of project, customer and personnel issues in consultation with the Quality Assurance Manager.
  • Provide periodic written status reports of Quality Engineering activities to the HHPC Quality Assurance Manager.
  • Ensure that all deliverables meet all applicable KBR and NASA quality standards.
  • Perform additional duties as needed, which may occasionally require work on weekends and/or evenings, sometimes with little to no advance notice.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited university with a minimum of 5 years of applicable experience.

DESIRED:

  • Three or more years of experience working in NASA/Government related quality engineering capacity.

SKILLS/TRAINING

REQUIRED:

  • Proficiency in interpreting detailed engineering drawings
  • Knowledge of quality and engineering concepts and tools.
  • Exceptional problem solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with limited administrative and technical supervision.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse team members, including Quality Engineers, Fabrication Technicians, Quality Inspectors and Hardware Engineers.
  • Willingness to learn new skills, tools, and technologies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite of tools.

DESIRED:

  • Familiarity with NPR 7150.2 – NASA Software Engineering Requirements
  • Knowledge of NASA/JSC SRM&QA procedures, processes and policies, including JPR 8500.4.
  • Knowledge of the Electronic Document System (EDS), the Electronic Discrepancy & Anomaly Reporting and Tracking (eDART) system, and JSC Engineering Design Information Infrastructure (JEDII)
  • ASQ Certified Software Quality Engineer (CSQE) or equivalent.
  • Proficiency with product/systems reliability and maintainability as outlined in the ASQ CSQE Body of Knowledge (BOK).
  • Experience or knowledge with software engineering, software development, and software processes.
  • Experience working in a CMMI Maturity Level 3 software or systems engineering organization.
