Position Overview:

The Quality Engineer (QE) is responsible for proactively supporting the development, implementation, and ongoing enhancement of the Fort Wayne quality management system. This role ensures consistently high performance across the facility and the market segments we serve. Responsibilities encompass supplier quality, internal process control, and customer feedback management. The Quality Engineer will play a key role in driving continuous improvement by analyzing quality data, identifying priorities, and leading initiatives to enhance operations throughout the facility. This position supports both internal quality processes and supplier quality activities.

Essential Functions:

  • Pro-actively facilitate the development of Quality Systems to provide consistent inspection and testing to meet company objectives and improve process yields.
  • Working knowledge of quality system industry standards such as ISO 9001.
  • Improve processes to reduce common cause variability and eliminate special cause by following Problem Solving techniques such as Six Sigma (DMAIC).
  • Use of structured quality improvement tools including six sigma tools is required.
  • Ensure appropriate collection of quality data, analyze the data for trends, identify corrective action opportunities, and drive corrective action activities.
  • Interpret technical drawings, including views, dimensions, GD&T symbols, and specifications related to product and process characteristics.
  • Assist in developing, maintaining, and reporting quality metrics while ensuring accuracy and establishing standards as needed.
  • Promote and ensure quality activities in manufacturing and support functions to assure that objectives are met.
  • Facilitate and train employee groups on process improvement and waste elimination techniques.
  • Lead teams in applying structured problem-solving methodology and tools to eliminate waste. Some common tools required to use are: Process Map, Pareto Chart, Trend Chart, Fishbone Diagram, 5-Why Analysis,
  • Utilize tools such as Histogram, SPC, FMEA, 5S, Correlation Analysis, Error-proofing, Cpk, Ppk, and Control Plans. Investigate and benchmark industry practices for process validation. Ensure accurate record-keeping in compliance with company policies and procedures
  • Actively support and lead our Corrective Action processes. Perform special assignments as required.
  • Identify critical to quality and safety part and process characteristics.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or industrial field, or 3 years of relevant industry experience and certifications in lieu of a degree.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Experience with mathematical and statistical calculations, including graphical reporting.
  • Ability to manage medium to large-scale projects.
  • Skilled in problem definition, data collection, fact establishment, and drawing valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret technical information in mathematical or diagram form..
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and collaborate effectively.
  • Understanding of customer quality, reliability requirements, and product expectations.

Desired Requirements:

  • 3 years Marine, Automotive or comparable regulated industry experience desired
  • Training of NMMA and ABYC regulations desired
  • APQP including PPAP, CAR, FMEA, and control planning desired
  • Hold a Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt or ability to acquire.
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer certification (or equivalent) or ability to acquire

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules (extended hours, weekends, holidays, etc.) if needed
