JOB SUMMARY
The QC Supervisor is responsible for managing the quality control activities on the production floor. This includes supervising QC Inspectors, planning and scheduling inspections, ensuring records are accurate, and resolving quality issues in collaboration with the production team. The role also includes training QC staff, maintaining inspection equipment, and supporting continuous improvement to enhance product quality and operational efficiency. By ensuring consistent inspection coverage and data integrity, the QC Supervisor plays a key role in achieving production quality targets and reducing non-conformances.
JOB PURPOSE
The QC Supervisor ensures that quality control activities within the corrugated board conversion area are carried out effectively and consistently to meet product specifications and customer requirements. This role leads a team of QC Inspectors, oversees inspection processes, and collaborates closely with production to minimize defects, reduce rework, and maintain compliance with quality standards.
JOB FUNCTIONS (Key Responsibilities)
I. Team Supervision and Leadership
a. Directly supervise QC Inspectors assigned to the conversion line operations (e.g., printing, die-cutting, slotting, folding, gluing) and finished goods area.
b. Assign inspection tasks based on production schedules and available resources.
c. Monitor inspector performance and provide coaching, direction, and support.
II. Inspection Planning and Execution
a. Plan, schedule, and oversee in-process and final product inspections during corrugated board conversion.
b. Ensure inspection activities follow approved sampling plans and specifications.
c. Prioritize inspections for high-risk or customer-critical jobs.
III. Quality Issue Investigation
a. Investigate production-related quality issues, including material defects, equipment-related problems, or operator errors.
b. Coordinate root cause analysis and initiate corrective/preventive actions in collaboration with QA and production teams.
c. Track and report recurring defects and recommend improvements.
IV. Training and Competency Development
a. Train new QC Inspectors on inspection standards, measurement tools, and visual defect criteria.
b. Train new Production personnel (Operator, Assistant Operator, etc.) on inspection standards, measurement tools, and visual defect criteria.
c. Conduct refresher training and maintain up-to-date training records for all QC staff.
d. Evaluate inspector competency and reinforce good inspection practices.
V. Data Review and Documentation
a. Review inspection records and non-conformance reports for completeness and accuracy.
b. Ensure timely reporting of inspection data and escalate critical findings to the Quality Manager and Plant Superintendent and supervisors.
c. Maintain traceable and audit-ready records.
VI. Collaboration with Production
a. Act as the key quality liaison between the QC team and production supervisors.
b. Participate in the Plant Meetings to align quality priorities.
c. Provide feedback to production teams on quality performance and trends.
VII. Quarantine Area Oversight
a. Physically managing the quarantine area (RA).
b. Ensuring nonconforming materials are properly segregated and labeled.
c. Controlling access to prevent accidental use of quarantined products.
d. Maintaining logs or systems tracking what’s in quarantine.
VIII. Equipment and Calibration Management
a. Ensure all QC measurement tools and gauges are properly maintained and calibrated.
b. Coordinate calibration schedules and maintain equipment logs.
c. Replace or escalate issues with malfunctioning or out-of-tolerance instruments.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, or related field preferred.
Experience:
· Minimum 5 years of experience in quality assurance or quality engineering, ideally in packaging or corrugated manufacturing.
· 2–3 years of experience in a team lead or supervisory role.
· Experience conducting inspections using standard tools (e.g., tape measure, gauges, micrometers) and applying sampling plans.
· Hands-on experience with root cause analysis and implementing corrective/preventive actions (e.g., 5 Whys).
· Experience leading or facilitating continuous improvement projects using Lean or similar methodologies.
· Familiarity with regulatory or customer quality standards (e.g., ISO, GMP, SQF, etc.) is a plus.

· Work environment includes front-office and manufacturing in California. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
