The Quality Control Manager will be responsible for improving the accuracy, precision, timing, and communication of process and analytical laboratory results to the various internal recipients, as well as in-plant operations analytical support. They will assist in the documentation of procedures, statistical analysis of results, analysis of samples, analysis of the root cause of errors, and the training of other staff in various QC techniques and data review. This position will work in the Process Technology and Engineering Department, reporting to the SVP of Engineering. The work schedule will be primarily day shift during the week, but it will at times require overlap with night and weekend shifts to allow in-person communication and collaboration with those shifts. All tasks will be performed in support of the policies, goals, and objectives of the company.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Establish and maintain the quality policies and procedures; supports improvements to data collection and reporting, and record archiving
- Sustain in-depth understanding of all analytical laboratory procedures
- Ability to learn and use Access/LIMS/SQL databases as applied to analytical laboratory data
- Implement control charts and other tools to ensure process & instrument stability
- Investigate of errors and error propagation in analytical data
- Determinate statistically valid upper and lower limits of quantification by procedure, by instrument
- Develop and implement an analytical laboratory report card, to set baseline performance and measure improvements over time
- Create internal QC standards, obtain external QC standards, supports 3rd party testing
- Help create and improve lab documentation, such as log sheets and SOPs
- Maintain a “hands-on” spirit in the laboratory, emphasizing collaboration, work scope definition, individual & team ownership, and task execution
- Follow all company, industry, and regulatory procedures and laws to ensure safe work by oneself and the company
- Complete any other tasks as needed or as directed by management
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience; Masters in chemistry or advanced degree preferred
5+ years’ experience as a chemist in an analytical laboratory, with direct involvement in quality control and quality assurance programs. Experience in environmental laboratory a plus
The understanding of normal analytical lab instrumentation including sample preparation, pipetting, titrations, pH, % solids, conductivity, general wet chemistry, ion chromatography, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, XRD, XRF, TOC determination, TCLP/STLC, LECO, DSC-TGA, surface area, particle & bulk density, atomic absorption spectroscopy
- Possess high attention to detail
- Must have good communication skills, both verbal and written
Possess working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and/or Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
DESIRED QUALITIES AND EXPERIENCE
- Able to provide constructive feedback in a professional manner
- Previous knowledge of Access or SQL databases
- Proven record of safety
- Proficient in computer skills including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, databases, statistical software, Outlook, SharePoint
