Position Summary

The Quality Control Inspector – Welding is responsible for inspecting welded components and assemblies produced by the Welding team to ensure conformance to engineering drawings, customer specifications, and applicable welding codes and standards. This role performs visual and dimensional inspections throughout the production process, documents inspection results, and partners with the Production Manager to identify and resolve quality issues, helping ensure Voeller Mixers equipment meets the highest standards of quality and reliability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

• Inspect welds visually and dimensionally for conformance to engineering drawings, work instructions, and applicable welding codes
• Verify weld size, length, placement, and appearance against specification prior to, during, and after production
• Use precision measuring tools (calipers, tape measures, weld gauges, squares) to confirm dimensional accuracy of fabricated and welded assemblies
• Review engineering drawings, blueprints, and bills of material to confirm parts and assemblies meet design intent
• Identify, tag, and document non-conforming welds or parts; initiate Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and coordinate disposition with Engineering and Production
• Maintain accurate inspection records, quality logs, and traceability documentation for each job or work order
• Partner with welders and Production Manager to communicate defects, coach on recurring issues, and confirm corrective actions are effective
• Support root cause analysis and continuous improvement efforts aimed at reducing rework, scrap, and repeat defects
• Review and verify material certifications (mill certs) against specification requirements as needed
• Maintain calibration schedules and records for inspection and measuring equipment
• Assist with first-article and in-process inspections for new or revised part numbers
• Communicate quality status, holds, and concerns promptly to the Production Manager
• Follow all safety policies and maintain a clean, organized inspection and work area

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Minimum 2 years of experience in quality control or inspection within a welding, metal fabrication, or manufacturing environment
• Working knowledge of welding processes (MIG, TIG, Stick) and common weld joint types and symbols
• Familiarity with AWS welding codes and standards; CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) credential preferred but not required
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
• Proficient with precision measuring instruments, including calipers, micrometers, and weld gauges
• Strong attention to detail with solid documentation and record-keeping habits
• Basic computer skills, including MS Office and quality tracking/ERP systems
• Clear communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with welders, engineering, and production staff
• Ability to stand for extended periods and work in a manufacturing/shop floor environment
