Job Overview:

Major Responsibilities:

A. Root Cause Analysis and Defect Prevention (50% - heavy manufacturing floor presence)

  • Analyze and improve internal production related concerns and customer claims to determine process improvement opportunities.
  • Determine root causes and assist in identifying and implementing corrective action(s) for internal scrap and customer concerns.
  • Regularly review open root cause projects and Quality Emergency Work Orders and drive to resolution.
  • Assist with the communication of customer and internal quality complaints.
  • Use statistical problem-solving methods during continuous improvement projects.
  • Provide quality support during the development of standards for new product introduction as required.

B. Continuous Improvement Activities / World Class Manufacturing (20%)

  • Supports the continuous improvement initiatives through the regular use of World Class Manufacturing (WCM) tools.
  • Participate on the WCM Quality roadmap team.
  • Lead continuous improvement teams and projects and validate sustainable results.
  • Train others in WCM tools and principles.

C. Customer Complaints (Internal and External) (10%)

  • Coordinate customer complaints with Customer Service Team Members.
  • Support the evaluation of complaint samples and returns to determine validity of manufacturing defect(s).
  • Communicate customer complaint findings with Quality and Customer Service Team Members.
  • Prepare reports as needed for customer complaints.
  • Assist in the corrective action and prevention of complaints.

D. Support the Quality Management System (15%)

  • Create Standard Work Instructions, Inspection Procedures, Inspection Documents/Forms, and other documents to support the Quality Management System.
  • Train plant associates as required on Quality Management System and ISO9001 requirements.
  • Assist in the creation and updating of manufacturing instruction and inspection worksheets.
  • Assist in calibration of all measuring equipment and maintain the calibration listing to ensure traceability of equipment.

E. Additional Support Activities (5%)

- Facilitate and maintain external and internal product testing.

  • Provide support to monitor, communicate, and summarize trials for the facility.
  • Conduct in-process and final inspection of product at the plant, outsource locations, and at Distribution Centers.

Requirements:

  • BS in a Technical Discipline or related experience.
  • 0 – 5 years of experience in the quality field in a manufacturing environment (rubber or plastics environment a plus).
  • Flexibility in work hours and willing to support a 24/7 operation as needed.
  • Experience with or the ability to quickly learn Design of Experiment (DOE), Statistical Process Control (SPC), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite, ERP Systems, SharePoint
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills to interact with all levels in the organization, suppliers, and customers.
  • Ability to write and publish procedures and standard work instructions.
  • Physical requirements to perform essential job functions include frequent walking around plant floor, kneeling, stooping, and bending.
    • Ability to pass a color blindness test and discern variations in color.
    • Able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Overnight travel (less than 10% of time)
