Seeking a quality technician to program and oversee our CMM equipment. This person will serve as technical specialist to supporting and train others as necessary.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Analyze engineering detail drawings for standardization, tolerances of design in relation to programming and applying standard data for scheduling and estimating cycle times for CMM for complex jobs. Assists other persons to make sure the proper program time and programming are correct. Set up, programs and operates CMM that automatically inspects and reports dimensional data. Makes general decision as to quality, tolerances and operation sequence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Others as assigned.
- Sets up and operates machines located in CMM area and verifies conformance of machined parts to specification for blueprints, sketches, or verbal descriptions.
- Within the guidelines and responsibilities noted below, oversee and train the operation and inspection code/ programs of CMM.
- Monitors work to ensure that CMM is not malfunctioning.
- Maintains and documents revision levels for above programming.
- Ensures proper quality plans/procedures are in place to meet all component and tool set specifications.
- Verifies dimensions and alignment using measuring instruments.
- Reviews blueprints and specifications to establish correct inspection criteria following best practices.
- Controls inventory of spare parts and orders all related consumable materials.
- Responsible to communicate all tool design changes to design department for proper documentation.
- Proper documentation of program run times.
- Follows work schedule for items in area of responsibility.
- Ensure all equipment is used and maintained properly in a safe manner and in good working condition at all times.
- Assist other plants in CMM programing needs when applicable.
- Provide specific training and testing requirements for peers working in area of responsibility.
- Helps schedule outside sources for calibration and repair.
- Maintains expected level of safety, quality and work efficiency standards.
- Participate in Steps CI Team Program. Make continuous improvement suggestions and participate and lead projects in area of responsibility.
Trainer Expectations
- Mentor and train others on GD&T and CMM programming.
- Direct and lead others as necessary.
- Be a resource for all plant locations regarding CMM training when applicable.
Programmer Expectations
- Develops, maintains and generates Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) programs used to inspect and verify production materials and components.
- Be a resource for all plant locations regarding CMM programming when applicable.
Schedule: This position is non-exempt (overtime pay eligible) and will primarily work eight or more hours per day, five or more days per week based on business needs. Basic schedule could be 7AM to 4PM Monday to Friday or similar.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent plus minimum 5 year’s CMM programming experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency in interpreting and utilizing Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) for inspection purposes.
- Considerable expertise, training and experience in using and programming Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM).
Preferred:
- 3-D modeling experience; experience with CAD/CAM programming; demonstrated ability to provide supervision to other technicians or production personnel; task oriented.
- Quality inspection experience or technical degree; minimum one-year certificate from college or technical school; or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Computer Skills – To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of spreadsheet software, Word Processing and Manufacturing software. Should be familiar with modeling software (i.e., AutoCAD, CATIA, etc.) and multiple CMM languages (i.e., PCdmis, OPENdmis, LKdmis, Polyworks, etc Knowledgeable of ANSI/ASME, ISO and GD&T.
Other Qualifications – Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate technical issues and interface with other departments. Good physical dexterity and coordination to safely handle parts, color vision/discrimination and visual acuity and depth perception for inspection and CMM operations. Familiar with Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing techniques.
