Position Summary:
Conduct and assure all quality-monitoring functions on a shift basis, including raw, in process and finished product and packaging conform to standards and specifications. Provide and log detailed information relating to the quality of the product, package and process. Work effectively with Production to check and ensure these specification requirements are met. Additional functions can include checking the incubation samples and applying microbiological methods to ensure the product run food safety prior to releasing products. Guaranteeing all finished product packaging and package integrity specifications are being followed. Responsible for reporting results and communicating issues related to all raw, in process and incubation testing to management. Responsible for applying microbiological methods to assist in projects and investigations as needed. Responsible for abiding by and ensuring all food safety and quality protocols are followed.
Essential Functions:
Assure that raw material, intermediates and finished product conforms to specification. Accomplished by performing and documenting sensory evaluation, various analytical & microbial testing and process plant observation. Utilize quality software to document and monitor SPC data as well as communicate and identify trends.
Adjust intermediate and finished product batches for Mix and Blend Operator as needed to satisfy specification requirement. Approve batch and ensure issued in SAP before it is processed through the UHT system.
Inspect transfer, mixing, and process equipment and production environment to ensure proper cleaning and quality practices. Monitor equipment for allergen, ATP and microbial compliance and conduct verification testing per procedure.
Evaluate and document test results and communicate deviations from specifications to QA Lead, Manager and other appropriate staff. Ensure that any deviations from product quality or specification including package integrity are properly placed on hold.
Maintain organized and clean work area as well as timely QA records.
Operate, maintain and calibrate lab equipment; this may include but is not limited to pH meters, moisture analyzers, refractometers, fat analyzers, colorimeter, protein analyzer, water activity meters, etc.
Collect retention samples as required and maintain organized storage system.
Assist in placing raw materials and finished goods onto hold and release as well as proper documentation, reporting and tagging.
Perform incubation testing on finished product prior to release. This includes monitoring temperatures of incubation rooms creating and updating daily incubation reports and related documentation. Assure that product conforms to post-process pH and microbial testing standards.
Perform package integrity checks to confirm the aseptic condition of Tetra Pak containers. This includes visual and destructive tests of the package.
Monitor package, case code, and cap placement. Ensure that correct fiber, case code, label and package code are used. Approve the case code and or label before each production run.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Secondary Functions
Oversee other QA technicians when QA Leader is absent or on vacation.
Apply basic microbiological methods including streak plating, pour plating, spread plating, petrifilm plating, serial dilutions, etc.
Assist in testing resampled/held product & evaluation of package integrity on defective packages.
Sampling and monitoring of incoming ingredients for compliance to specifications including review of Certificates of Analysis (COA’s) or sampling and testing as required.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory responsibilities: This position is not supervisory in nature.

Ability to push, pull, or move up to 150 pounds and the ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds frequently
Minimum qualifications:
The position requires a Bachelors degree or equivalent specializing in Food Science, Quality Assurance or related field, years of experience accepted in lieu of degree. Required one year of relevant experience, preferably in a food manufacturing setting.
Working conditions:
QA work is performed in a lab, warehouse or production environment and involves the extensive use of office and lab equipment. The position is subject to shift work, extensive close work heavy lifting and constant standing as well as frequent walking back and forth between multiple buildings and areas of work. While performing the duties of the job incumbent could be working around moving mechanical parts. The position is subject to extensive close work, the use of and exposure to hazardous materials, high voltage, hot pipes and constant standing. The noise level is typically moderate to loud. Some overtime may be required.
Alternative Work Schedule: 12-hour shifts, 3 or 4 days per week
Front Half Days: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, every other Wednesday 6am-6:30pm
Back Half Days: Every other Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday 6am-6:30pm
Front Half Nights: Every other Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday 6pm-6:30am
Back Half Nights: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, every other Saturday 6pm-6:30am
Individual base pay depends on work location and additional factors such as experience, job-related skills, and relevant education or training. Total pay may include other forms of compensation.
