Quality Assurance Specialist

Position Summary

This position is responsible for conducting quality assurance audits of the RIR, Scaling Room and Retardation Room assuring the company standards are maintained and product integrity is preserved.   Consults with management as needed to resolve quality, production and efficiency problems.  Functions as an information source to various departments when special and critical quality issues occur.  Function in conjunction with manager, quality assurance on special department projects.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Sampling on the lamination line to determine dough/filling ratios.
  • Sampling of muffins batter to determine pH, consistency, temperature, and specific gravity. 
  • Audit mixers to ensure following correct specifications.
  • Report updates to formulas, scaling, and traceability forms as needed.
  • Complete butter pump checks and report foreign material findings.
  • Complete egg system cleaning audit and perform swabs to validate cleaning.
  • Ensure equipment cleaning at product change overs and allergen change overs.
  • Inspection of dough racks, peel boards, belts, and line equipment to ensure product will not be contaminated with physical, chemical, or biological hazards. 
  • Inspection of ingredients to ensure FIFO. Place expired ingredients on hold and request extension of shelf life when applicable.
  • Audit unloading raw material truck for overall trailer condition and product condition.
  • Review traceability forms for compliance.
  • Audit unloading of bulk ingredients to ensure compliance with all related programs.
  • The incumbent understands and complies with all food safety policies, procedures and programs as stated in the Company’s Food Safety Manual.
  • GMP Audits - Monitor production, maintenance, and sanitation employees for compliance. 
  • Glass/Brittle Plastic Audits - Follow up on foreign material and breakage form and sign off.
  • Participate on plant walkthrough in the areas of responsibility and assist with the completion of tasks assigned during the inspection.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned and required.

Education & Experience

  • 2 – 4 years Quality Assurance or related experience 
  • College degree or equivalent experience required
