This is a hands-on opportunity to gain broad experience in manufacturing quality systems, inspection processes, ISO documentation, customer and vendor quality communication, PPAP, and cross-functional problem-solving.
Position Summary
The Assistant Quality Assurance Manager will support the Quality Manager in maintaining and improving the company's quality systems, inspection processes, documentation, and customer and vendor quality communications.
This position is ideal for a detail-oriented and organized quality professional who wants to build technical knowledge and leadership experience while developing toward a future Quality Manager or Quality Control Manager role.
The position will work closely with production, sales, purchasing, vendors, and customers to help ensure products meet customer requirements, internal quality standards, and applicable regulatory and compliance requirements.
The company anticipates this role developing toward broader Quality Control Manager responsibilities over approximately 3–5 years, based on performance, business needs, and demonstrated readiness. Progressive responsibility will be provided as the individual develops the technical knowledge, leadership skills, and quality systems experience needed for increased department oversight.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Control & Manufacturing Support
- Support the Quality Manager with daily quality control activities and projects.
- Coordinate and prioritize quality control projects, including task assignments, follow-up, and verification of completion.
- Support daily inspection activities and ensure inspection results are accurately documented.
- Assist with material and finished-part disposition decisions by gathering information, reviewing requirements, and coordinating with appropriate team members.
- Identify quality issues and assist with root cause investigation and corrective action activities.
- Provide quality control training and day-to-day assistance to team members as needed.
- Support tooling, die, sampling, and first-piece decisions for new or revised parts.
Customer & Vendor Quality
- Assist with customer quality issues, including NCRs, SCARs, customer scorecards, report cards, and follow-up documentation.
- Coordinate customer and vendor returns and RMA activities, including communication, documentation, and internal follow-up.
- Serve as a quality contact for routine communications with customers, vendors, and internal departments.
- Help investigate customer complaints and coordinate internal responses.
- Follow up on corrective actions and ensure required documentation is completed.
Quality Documentation & Compliance
- Prepare, review, and maintain Certificates of Compliance/Conformance and Material Certifications.
- Maintain accurate quality records and documentation.
- Help improve and standardize quality forms, templates, procedures, and records.
- Support ISO 9001:2015 audit preparation, documentation review, corrective actions, and follow-up activities.
- Assist with environmental compliance documentation and recordkeeping.
- Support UL submissions, inspections, and related documentation requirements.
- Help ensure quality documentation is complete, accurate, and properly maintained.
PPAP & Technical Quality Support
- Prepare, review, and organize Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) documentation.
- Compile required PPAP forms, test results, dimensional inspection results, material certifications, and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate PPAP submission activities with customers, vendors, and internal teams.
- Help ensure PPAP packages are accurate, complete, and submitted on schedule.
- Read and interpret customer specifications, engineering drawings, quality requirements, and inspection criteria.
- Perform basic calculations involving part area, weight, volume, and material usage to support quality, estimating, and production decisions.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Degree in Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, Business, Operations, or a related field preferred.
Experience
- 2+ years of experience in quality assurance, quality control, manufacturing, customer quality, documentation control, or a related field preferred.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
- Experience with ISO 9001, PPAP, corrective action, NCRs, SCARs, or quality management systems is a plus.
