Quality Assurance Manager
Position Summary
The Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for leading all day-to-day quality activities within a manufacturing environment to ensure customer requirements, safety standards, and quality expectations are consistently met. This role drives the quality management system, prioritizing safety and quality requirements while supporting production and operational goals.
Essential Functions
- Implement and maintain company quality standards and procedures.
- Serve as the ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 management representative.
- Manage the document control system, including creating, revising, and maintaining quality policies, procedures, and work instructions.
- Track and coordinate employee training related to new or revised quality procedures.
- Oversee quality standards throughout the facility and provide quality support to supervisors and production teams.
- Identify, evaluate, and mitigate risks within manufacturing processes that may impact quality, safety, or throughput.
- Conduct risk analyses and implement corrective measures to reduce operational and quality risks.
- Review, track, and approve process changes to determine potential impacts on quality requirements and established practices.
- Plan, schedule, and manage internal audits, corrective actions, and effectiveness reviews.
- Coordinate and support customer, regulatory, and certification audits.
- Review audit findings and work with appropriate departments to implement and verify corrective actions.
- Monitor quality testing processes and identify gaps or opportunities for improvement.
- Work with suppliers to ensure incoming materials and supplies meet quality requirements.
- Collect, analyze, and report quality data to identify trends and support proactive improvements.
- Manage nonconforming material through the Material Review Board (MRB) process.
- Interface with customers as needed and oversee the investigation and resolution of customer complaints.
- Perform or delegate purchase specification reviews.
- Identify and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with internal quality procedures, customer requirements, and applicable industry standards.
- Maintain calibration schedules for measuring and test equipment and coordinate outside calibration services as needed.
- Pursue ongoing professional development through training, seminars, industry best-practice sharing, and other learning opportunities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
- Five to seven years of experience in a quality role within a manufacturing environment.
- Previous management, supervisory, or leadership experience required.
- Prior experience supervising a laboratory or quality lab is preferred.
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 quality management systems.
- Strong understanding of internal audits, corrective actions, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement methods.
- Ability to lead teams, direct work, and collaborate effectively across departments.
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Strong data analysis and data-driven decision-making skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position may supervise quality and laboratory personnel, including responsibility for employee performance management, hiring, training, and development.
Work Environment
This position operates primarily in an office environment within a manufacturing facility. The role requires regular interaction with production areas and occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical equipment, vibration, and other typical manufacturing conditions.
Required personal protective equipment may include hearing protection, hard hat with chin strap, safety glasses, high-visibility vest, and safety boots with toe and metatarsal protection.
Physical Requirements
The employee must be able to communicate effectively, stand and walk frequently, use hands to handle or operate materials and equipment, and reach with hands and arms. Regular shop-floor presence is required.
Schedule
This is a full-time position, typically scheduled Monday through Friday during normal business hours. Hours may vary based on operational and business needs.
Travel
Occasional travel may be required for customer visits, training, audits, or visits to other company facilities.
