Hours: Full-time, hourly, non-exempt position. Overtime may be required.
Starting Salary: $60,000 minimum DOE

The Position:
This position works in a collaborative environment with all areas of production to support the quality of all Alaskan Brewing craft products through the following duties:
- Performs quantitative tests and statistical analysis including pH, diacetyl, color, bitterness, alcohol content, etc.
- Performs physical and quantitative tests and statistical analysis on packaged products including fill heights, can seams, bottle crimps, liquid airs, etc.
- Performs microbiological sampling, employing both traditional plating methods and molecular PCR techniques on yeast, wort, beer and other Alaskan Brewing products.
- Proctors and participates in product sensory panels and performs statistical analysis on results.
- Creates Process Control reports for quantitative brewery, packaging, and sensory data and presents reports and recommendations to facility stakeholders.
- Inspects raw ingredients and materials to assure QA specifications are met including, hops, malt, glass, cans, boxes, etc.
- Works with production teams on sanitation and preventive measures to ensure hygienic environments.
- Responsible for critical thinking, problem solving and process improvement in QA and other production areas.
- Maintains lab cleanliness, instrument maintenance, and lab supply inventories.
- Educates employees on quality initiatives and processes in various production areas.
- Assists with projects and research as assigned.
- Promotes a team environment where participation, commitment, initiative, flexibility, and performance are valued and demonstrated.
- Assists brewing department in tank cleaning, dry hopping, and R&D brewing based on department needs.
- Assists packaging department in running various packaging lines based on department needs.
- May work in other areas of the brewery based on business needs.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stack 40 lb cases and maneuver kegs weighing up to 170 lbs.
- Ability to repetitively lift heavy objects, such as 60 lb bags of malt or filter agents.
- Ability to work in cold, wet conditions.
Special Knowledge and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related scientific field required. Experience may be accepted in lieu of educational requirements.
- Laboratory experience; including bench chemistry, aseptic technique, and scientific methodology preferred.
- Ability to comprehend the theory and practice of brewing and fermentation.
- Working knowledge of quality assurance systems (i.e., HACCP), process controls, and compliance measures preferred.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills required.
- Strong working knowledge and experience in computer systems including spreadsheets, databases, and word processing.
- Willingness to learn about Alaskan Brewing craft products.
