Title: QRO Lead Technician 

Department: QRO

SUMMARY:  The purpose of this position is to perform daily activities in such a manner to support safety, operations, sanitation, quality and food safety efforts. This position will sustain the Mission and Motto and Food Safety and Quality Statement of the Mennel Milling Company. 

 

PRIMARY WORK SHIFT: Works shift as assigned and overtime as required.

Employee will be assigned to a 12-hour rotating shift which includes weekends and potential holiday work. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Follow all food and personal safety rules and regulations in respect to GMP’s, OSHA, HACCP, the Global Food Safety Initiative, the US FDA Food Safety Modernization Act as stated in the FS&Q Statement, and sanitation guidelines as set forth by the company as listed in Corporate Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) and attend all required training sessions. Maintain the department/facility in an everyday audit ready condition.
  • Responsible for maintaining Martel plant-wide sanitation standards including preventative maintenance sanitation activities, FSRA sanitation corrective action items, and enforcement of an effective master sanitation program.
  • Utilize computerized database to coordinate sanitation work order assignments, follow up, updates and completing work orders.
  • Provides leadership for the sanitation employees including providing specific sanitation direction.
  • Perform pest control activities. Completes all sanitation/pest control documentation.
  • Complete all environmental checks, food safety verification and validation activities and defined facility/property assessments.
  • Responsible for involvement during all internal, AIB, customer and regulatory audits. 
  • Responsible for maintaining inventory to ensure adequate supplies for sanitation chemicals, tools and equipment. Including, but not limited to: all hairnets, gloves, plant Personal Protective Equipment and other GMP and operation supply needs.
  • Responsible for auditing and upkeep of Martel’s sifter systems. Involves defined sifter checks, tailing audits and electronic tracking of findings.
  • Responsible for glass/brittle plastic/ceramic plant audit.
  • Conducts positive release process by reviewing all previous shift quality and processing records. Insure that all required documents from their shift are collected and organized each day.
  • Investigate all potential hazards identified as a result of the HACCP checks or monitoring programs.
  • Inspect allergen/kosher cleanouts, and document approval prior to production.
  • Monitoring of refeed activities, issuing refeed to production.
  • Completion of environmental swabbing sample collection.
  • Acts as the lead person for weekday and weekend sanitation, general cleans, fogging and fumigation activities.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has no supervisory duties.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:   

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform this job

 

  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent required. 
  • Computer skills including a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, and Word.
  • Ability to communicate job tasks to other employees.
  • Understands basic HACCP, food safety, and sanitation as it applies to food processing.
  • Ability to attain and maintain required license and certification within the first year for pesticide, insecticide and vertebrate application. 
  • Must be able to operate a forklift in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Must be able to use the scissor lift and genie boom.
  • Must be able to stack product safely and without due loss.
  • Must successfully complete/pass have required HACCP training.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, memos, procedures, and plans. Ability to write, complete checklists and other basic documentation and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information or data in one-on-one and small group situations to co-workers, supervisors, and managers.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Must use solid judgment when making decisions. Must have ability to quickly recognize and plan for changing work duties and events.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to conditions that are typical to a fast- paced manufacturing environment, including: moving equipment and machinery, dusty, hot/humid, and cold conditions; employee must be willing to work in all weather conditions, at heights, and in the presence of airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment usually requires the use of hearing protection. Work involves exposure to common wheat allergens.
