Overview

The Analytical Chemist will independently author and execute method development/validation protocols or reports, instrument qualifications and finalized procedures.

Responsibilities

Under minimal supervision:

 

  • Accurately documents work in laboratory notebooks and instrument logbooks
  • Designs and executes method development and validation studies using Design of Experiments and other advanced statistical techniques
  • Leads suspected-out-of-specification investigations
  • Performs and documents monthly and yearly preventative maintenance, repairs and calibrations on laboratory instruments and equipment
  • Independently troubleshoots laboratory instruments, equipment and procedures
  • Authors and peer reviews summary reports including calculation of calibration curves, recoveries, concentrations, acceptance ranges, compositions and basic statistics (i.e. averages, standard deviations, RSD, correlation coefficients, confidence intervals, student’s t-test, etc.)
  • Accurately reports results in data management systems
  • Communicate results both orally and in writing to supervisor, key project members, and higher level management
  • Author, revise and review standard operating procedures, reporting templates, method validation or instrument qualification protocols, method validation reports and other laboratory documentation
  • Maintains organization and cleanliness of the laboratory, instruments, equipment, samples, reference standards and/or supplies
  • Oversees testing and compliance of reference standards
  • Identifies and communicates ideas for improvements in laboratory safety and efficiency, operating procedures and laboratory practices
  • Independently take action on project activities, work with other functions and sometimes outside vendors
  • Adheres to company safety policies and other safety regulations
  • Assists in mentoring and training of Laboratory Technicians

Qualifications

Essential

  • B.A./B.S. degree in chemistry with 4-10 years or M.S. degree in chemistry with 0-5 years of laboratory experience in a regulated environment
  • Advanced hands-on experience with analytical instruments, including but not limited to GC, HPLC, ICP-MS, FT-IR, UV/Vis and titrators, with ability to troubleshoot and repair instrumentation
  • Working knowledge of USP, ICH and FDA food, supplement and drug regulations
  • Efficiently and accurately performs essential duties and responsibilities
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills including face-to-face and phone conversations
  • Ability to work independently and in teams
  • Ability to prioritize and complete tasks within required timelines and under minimal supervision
  • Ability to author documents using MS Word, perform intermediate statistical analysis in MS Excel (i.e. average, standard deviation, relative standard deviation, etc.)
  • Manual dexterity for such duties as stapling, collating, sorting, filing, typing, copying, writing, etc
  • Visually read reports, computer screen, etc.
  • Ability to climb stairs, lift 30 lbs., sit and stand for long periods of time
