We are looking for a skilled Pump Build and Repair Technician to join our growing Atlanta team.
Position Summary
The Pump Build and Repair Technician is responsible for the assembly, testing, disassembly, diagnosis, and repair of centrifugal, submersible, and other hydronic pumps and related rotating equipment used in commercial HVAC and engineered plumbing systems. This role works both in the shop and, when needed, in the field to ensure pumps meet manufacturer specifications and customer requirements before delivery or return to service. This position reports directly to the Pump Build & Repair Manager.
Key Responsibilities
• Build, assemble, and test new pumps and pump packages according to manufacturer specifications and customer order requirements.
• Disassemble pumps for inspection, evaluation, and repair, identifying worn or damaged components such as seals, bearings, impellers, and gaskets.
• Diagnose mechanical and performance issues in centrifugal, submersible, and other rotating pump equipment.
• Replace and rebuild pump components, including mechanical seals, bearings, couplings, and motors.
• Perform pump and motor alignment to ensure proper operation and longevity of equipment.
• Conduct performance testing on rebuilt or newly assembled pumps prior to shipment or installation, verifying flow, pressure, and mechanical operation.
• Read and interpret pump curves, technical drawings, and manufacturer specifications to guide build and repair work.
• Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, including build records, repair logs, and parts used.
• Operate hand tools, power tools, and basic machining equipment to fabricate or modify parts as needed.
• Support field service technicians with pump removal, installation, and start-up when required.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with company safety standards and procedures.
• Communicate with the Pump Build & Repair Manager and service/parts teams to ensure timely turnaround on repairs and builds.
• Assist with inventory management of pump parts and components.
Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training in mechanical, industrial, orHVAC systems preferred.
• 2+ years of experience building, repairing, or maintaining pumps, motors, or rotating equipment (HVAC, hydronic, industrial, or water/wastewater experience preferred).
• Working knowledge of centrifugal and submersible pump design and operation.
• Ability to read technical drawings, pump curves, and manufacturer specifications.
• Experience with mechanical seals, bearings, couplings, and pump/motor alignment.
• Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical work in a shop environment; occasional field work may require additional physical demands.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Good communication skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Skills
• Experience with hydronic HVAC systems specifically (heating/cooling water pumps).
• Familiarity with variable frequency drives (VFDs) and pump control systems.
• Basic welding or fabrication skills.
• Forklift certification.
Work Environment
This position is primarily shop-based in Atlanta, GA, with occasional travel to job sites for installation or field support. Work may involve exposure to noise, moving mechanical parts, and varying temperatures typical of an industrial shop setting.
