  • Operating wave solder and selective solder machines for plated through hole board soldering.

  • Equipment includes Electrovert EC4 and EC3 wave solder machines and Ersa Versaflow 366 and 4XL selective solder machines.- Operators should already be trained on similar equipment and able to test out of Plexus’ internal training rather than requiring full operator training from the ground up. Experience with he same brands of machine is preferred but not required; similar wave solder or selective solder equipment experience is acceptable.

  • Wave soldering solders components on one side of the board in a single pass. Selective soldering is used when components are present on both sides of the board and solder must be applied to targeted areas rather than across the entire board.

  • Operators perform setups, load the correct recipe/program, confirm machine settings match the established profile, and set the in-feed conveyor speed to match the recipe.- If settings, alarms, defects, or machine issues arise, this is escalated to FTE Technicians, Engineering, or Quality members.

  • Daily responsibilities include operating the machine, loading boards onto conveyors, monitoring boards as they move through the equipment, watching for alarms or abnormal machine conditions, maintaining solder pot/fluxer areas, checking flux levels, topping off flux/solvent as needed, and completing basic shift maintenance.

  • Operators also perform manual component insertion, or “stuffing,” before boards enter the machine. This involves following step-by-step Assembly Build Instructions to insert components in the correct location and orientation.- This is done to prep the boards with components prior to putting the boards into the machinery. Depending upon production requirements, this task may also be done by FTEs. All technicians should be prepared to do the “stuffing” whenever needed and rotate with others to operate the machinery itself.

Boards may include transistors, inductors, capacitors, resistors, and other through-hole components. Device counts can range from approximately 2 to 60 components, and board sizes
