Overview

The Project Maintenance Technician is responsible for supporting special projects by installing, repairing, rebuilding, and improving production equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations in a bakery manufacturing environment. This hands-on role requires experience in welding, fabrication, electrical wiring, machine rebuilding, PLC troubleshooting, and interpreting technical prints and schematics to complete equipment upgrades and maintenance projects.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Assembly and installation of food manufacturing equipment;
  • Welding and fabrication tasks to repair, modify or enhance existing machinery;
  • Rebuild machines and components as necessary to maintain production efficiency;
  • Wiring and installation of electrical circuits to equipment or building based on needs;
  • Troubleshoot and resolve PLC-related issues, ensuring minimal downtime;
  • Read and interpret mechanical and electrical prints, schematics, and diagrams to carry out repairs and modifications;
  • Maintain and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems to ensure optimal functionality;
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve equipment reliability and performance;
  • Document maintenance activities and maintain accurate records of repairs and modifications;
  • Assist in the implementation of preventive maintenance programs;
  • Perform other required tasks as assigned.

 

Job Requirements

 

  • Minimum 10 years of proven experience in a maintenance role within the food manufacturing or similar industry;
  • Proficient in welding and fabricating with various materials;
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in machine rebuilding;
  • Knowledge of PLC systems and troubleshooting techniques;
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical prints and schematics;
  • Proficient in NEC regulations and NFPA 70E standards;
  • Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including troubleshooting and repair;
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail;
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks effectively and with little supervision;
  • Able to travel between facilities in the Indianapolis Area;
  • Certifications in a related field (e.g., Welding, PLC, Hydraulics, Electrical) preferred;
  • Experience with bakery production equipment is a plus;
  • Familiarity with safety protocols and best practices in a food manufacturing setting preferred.
