Job Summary

The Project Manager to take ownership of projects from start to finish. In this role, you’ll collaborate with customers, engineers, and production teams to ensure quality, schedule, and cost goals are met—while driving innovation and efficiency in every project.


Northern Metal Fab is a versatile custom fabrication “job shop” where our team members are exposed to the manufacturing of many diverse products. Along with custom fabrication and tooling, we specialize in material handling, commercial marine, industrial vehicles, water treatment, and much more. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage projects from order acceptance, through engineering, prefab, and fabrication, to delivery.
  • Work with customers and various NMF departments to maintain quality, schedule, and cost.
  • Develop bills of material and ERP job structure for complex systems that reflect both the product structure and efficient production methods.
  • Manage and control the revision of existing project scope to conform to engineering change orders. This may require the development of new or modified manufacturing processes.
  • Support customer’s design efforts in developing models and suggest design improvements for effective production.
  • Plan, organize, and prioritize daily work routines for the projects assigned by monitoring detailed schedule, customer communications, and facilitate resolution of internal non-conformances in a timely manner.
  • Develop relationships with customer personnel.
  • Support sales efforts.
  • Lead and communicate effectively on cross-functional project teams.
  • Work with Estimating, Production, and Quality Assurance to make sure the customer’s designs can be fabricated effectively and efficiently with the materials, methods, and processes available.
  • Report on project status including design progress, schedule, and cost.
  • Create appropriate data packages including solid models, drawings, and material specifications using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

Requirements

  • Associate degree (minimum) or Bachelor’s degree (preferred) in mechanical engineering, mechanical design, or related technical field, with strong analytical skills.
  • At least 3 years of demonstrated engineering and project management experience in metal fabrication and machining industries.
  • Must be familiar with a wide variety of industrial manufacturing processes, equipment, and techniques.
  • High level of proficiency in a variety of PC-based software applications including CAD/CAM software, spreadsheets and manufacturing systems is required.
  • Must have SolidWorks experience.
  • AutoCAD experience a plus.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High levels of initiative, judgment and creativity are expected.
  • Experience with ProNest and Epicor ERP system is a plus.

   

Physical Demands


The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.

  • Work is performed primarily in an office environment, requiring prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a      computer. 
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and  in writing. 
  • Occasional walking, standing, and movement throughout the facility may be required to interact with production, engineering, and  other departments. 
  • May occasionally need to lift, carry, or move office  materials or documents up to 20 pounds. 
  • Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus when working with detailed      engineering drawings and computer screens.
