POSITION PURPOSE:
The Estimator position supports the Project Management Team. The Estimator is responsible for evaluating project opportunities, prioritizing those opportunities, and working with internal and external resources and suppliers to develop and assist in the development of detailed estimates around various industrial construction opportunities. The position requires internal collaboration between the Commercial Team (Sales), Project Management, Process and Electrical Engineering Divisions, Instrumentation/Automation, Piping Design and ICM Manufacturing Division. Additionally, the role requires external collaboration with manufacturers and suppliers/vendors to solicit ROM pricing and estimates along with formal RFQ’s on equipment and materials. The role may also require ongoing external communication with Customers for scope clarification and issuance or RFI’s. The Estimator may be responsible for or assist in generating executable contract documents for projects and ensuring that detailed scope, schedule and budget (in addition to legal and tax language) associated with an executable agreement is fully defined and accurately reflects Customers requests.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:
- Work closely during Project hand-off phase from Commercial Team to Project Management (Operations) to understand historical communications and Customers requests and expectations, understand specific Project scope and define deliverables as it pertains to schedule and pricing.
- Attend development meetings with Project Management and Operations Division Leaders to clarify Scope questions, gather engineering resource hours and scheduling.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for civil, structural, mechanical, piping, electrical, and instrumentation scopes. Work with Mechanical and Electrical Construction Managers to aid in estimate development.
- Build comprehensive project estimates, including direct and indirect costs. Project estimates will include the following aspects according to the CSI Divisions or Master Format:
- General Conditions
- Civil and Underground
- Concrete
- Steel and TMP
- Major and Minor equipment and specialty components related to ICM Technology
- Conveying Systems
- Mechanical / Industrial Piping
- Insulation – Piping and Equipment
- Electrical Power / Automation and Instrumentation
- Review project specifications, drawings, bid documents, and client requirements.
- Develop conceptual, budgetary, and definitive cost estimates.
- Solicit, evaluate, and compare vendor and subcontractor quotations.
- Prepare labor productivity calculations and manpower forecasts.
- Identify risks, contingencies, and escalation factors within estimates.
- Participate in bid reviews and estimate presentations with management.
Education/Certification:
- High school diploma required
- Bachelor degree in Construction Science Management or Engineering discipline preferred
Required Knowledge & Experience:
- 2 - 5 years estimating, project management or field experience required
- Industrial Construction experience preferred
- Microsoft Excel experience required
- Microsoft Word experience preferred
- AutoCAD experience preferred
Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings
- Possess excellent computer skills utilizing MS Office suite of products
- Strong strategic, analytical, pragmatic and organizational skills
- Demonstrate attention to detail.
- Must maintain relationships of a sensitive nature, interact with external customers with tact and diplomacy, possess strong interpersonal skills, and a customer service focus
Must possess current, valid driver's license with no restriction. 10% travel required or as needed.
