Who You Are

What You'll Do
As a Project Engineer, you will lead capital and continuous improvement projects throughout the Toledo facility while providing engineering support to operations and maintenance teams. You will manage projects from concept through startup and work closely with plant personnel, contractors, vendors, and corporate resources to drive operational excellence.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading capital projects from concept through startup, including scope development, budgeting, scheduling, procurement, installation, commissioning, and project closeout
- Managing multiple capital and continuous improvement projects simultaneously
- Providing engineering support for flour milling, ingredient handling, packaging, warehouse operations, utilities, facility infrastructure, and material handling systems
- Developing equipment specifications, project scopes, layouts, cost estimates, bid packages, schedules, and purchase requisitions
- Coordinating contractors, vendors, engineering firms, and plant personnel during project execution
- Supporting operations and maintenance through troubleshooting and implementation of improvements that enhance safety, reliability, quality, productivity, and operating costs
- Supporting annual capital planning, equipment replacement strategies, facility expansions, and infrastructure improvements
- Ensuring projects comply with corporate engineering standards, OSHA requirements, food safety standards, and applicable regulatory requirements
- Maintaining project documentation including drawings, budgets, specifications, schedules, RFQs, purchase orders, and project records
- Building strong partnerships with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, R&D, Purchasing, Finance, and Corporate Engineering teams
- Providing regular project updates to plant and corporate leadership
- Maintaining an audit-ready facility and supporting food safety initiatives
- Performing other duties as assigned
Leadership Responsibilities
While this position does not have direct reports, it provides leadership through:
- Coordinating outside contractors, engineering firms, equipment suppliers, and vendors
- Leading project teams during installation, commissioning, and startup activities
- Providing direction and support to maintenance and operations personnel during project execution
- Driving collaboration across departments to ensure successful project outcomes
What We're Looking For
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline preferred
Experience
- 5–10 years of engineering experience in a continuous manufacturing environment required
- Food manufacturing experience preferred
- Proven success managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Experience managing capital projects from concept through startup
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing systems including:
- Flour milling operations
- Bulk material handling
- Ingredient handling systems
- Mixing and processing equipment
- Packaging systems
- Utilities and facility infrastructure
- Industrial construction projects
- Working knowledge of GMPs, food safety regulations, OSHA requirements, and EPA regulations
Skills
- Strong project management, organization, and problem-solving capabilities
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and organizational levels
- Strong analytical and decision-making abilities
- Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on project execution
